Laptop restarts during game

Hi,

just started playing on OOTP 24 and during 3rd inning of a game, my laptop restarted itself.

i don't know why, just wanted some help. i played both OOTP 20 and 22 and never had any in game problems.

my laptop is HP Pavilion 13, 11 Gen Intel (r) TM i5-1135G7 and i've got windows 10, intel(r) iris(r) xe graphics, intel(r) iris(r) xe graphics family

Same problem here. I try to play out each game and it freezes mid-game and my laptop automatically restarts. It’s happening randomly, like in the 3rd inning, 4th inning, 7th inning, with no obvious pattern. It has happened using modern 3D mode and classic 3D mode. Can’t make it through a whole game.

HP Laptop, 12th gen Intel, 12GB ram, windows 11 home edition

*edit: I'm using the latest .42 patch and still getting the problem

Managed to play through a game by playing in 2D mode

It's probably not a bug in that OOTP cannot make your computer restart, no matter what kind of crash or bug happens in-game. So this is an indication there's something weird going on at your system level.

That's not to say there's nothing you can do in-game to help with this though.

Even beyond switching to 2d mode you might also try adjusting to different OpenGL settings and audience detail settings 'start screen' > 'settings' > 3d and 'facegen' and see if one of those helps with the issue, as it's possible that the default settings may not be the right ones for your system and may be maxing out or overloading some resource.

I only played OOTP22 Last week and have not had any issues.

When you say it's probably not a bug, what do you mean?

Well, I like I said, OOTP crashing or freezing or whatever bug there may be in OOTP cannot make your system restart.

The fact that this happens indicates there's something beyond the game itself going on here and that your system is likely running out of resources somehow.

That's not to say a possible bug in OOTP might not contribute to a spike in say memory or CPU usage, but even if that's the case, it's not the full cause of whatever is going on here.

I would definitely recommend playing with the different OpenGL settings as mentioned above, as it may be that for whatever reason, the default one is more than your system is able to handle.

It should be fine, but whether the system has enough resources can also depend on a lot of different things what other programs you might be running at the same time, how updated your drivers are etc.

I'm just running google chrome, looking at the internet. how can i check how updated my drivers are?

Cheers, i just checked and it says the best Microsoft AC Adapter is already installed.

do you have any other suggestions other than running the game in a lower quality mode.

the only update is to Windows 10 version 22H2

What I mentioned above, try adjusting to different OpenGL settings and audience detail settings 'start screen' > 'settings' > 3d and 'facegen' and see if one of those helps with the issue, as it's possible that the default settings may not be the right ones for your system and may be maxing out or overloading some resource.

That's not even a matter of lower quality per say, but just that each setting works a little differently so some might play better with your system than others.
