Pretty sure your math is wrong

the odds for a Diamond CARD are 1:150 (so in a standard pack, it should be 6:150)

I would like to look at option 2 "Counter with spending lots of time figuring out the angles to make a F2P team successful". That sounds logical and heroic.

in my league there is a whale. this has 6 players with an overall 100 and 20 players with an overall of 90. so 6 perfekt players and 20 diamond players. but that's not so bad, on his reserver roster the player has 72 other players.
67 diamond, 4 gold and one silver player.

in total, the player has 87 diamond players and 6 perfect players. let's consider only the diamond players. one diamond player can be obtained with 1:150 per pack. so for the player to have 87 diamond players, he should have opened 87*150 = 13,050 packs.

one pack costs 1000 PP. this means that the player should have paid 13,050,000 PP. 2 million PP is available for $499, the rest can be calculated by yourself, but don't forget the 20% discount for PT+.

i first thought the player had cheated. not so much because of the cost, but because someone must have opened the 13,000 packs! let's say it takes 3 seconds to open a pack, then it takes 39,000 seconds alone - that's almost 11 hours. after that calculation, i knew the player hadn't cheated. he deserves my respect for spending 11 hours of his life pressing a button to open 13.000 packs.
at this point the hint. the whale got too few perfect players. the chance is 1:1000, so with almost 13.000 packs the player should have 13 perfect players and not only 6, please check if there is a bug in the software.

now we have a basis on which to make the statement to "Counter with spending lots of time figuring out the angles to make a F2P team successful".
A F2P player would therefore have to "somehow" earn 13,000 packs.
Let's assume a player manages to earn 50 free packs a day, then the F2P player would need 13,000/50 = 260 days until he has the packs together.

I don't know how you see it, but I think it's extremely unrealistic to earn 50 packs a day. its impossible to counter a whale with "hard work and be smart". what do u think?

Disclaimer:
at this point i would like to point out that i don't want to offend anyone. if someone wants to invest money in PT, that's ok with me. it's also ok with me if someone only plays F2P.
I just wanted to show that a F2P player has no chance against a whale in PT. The whale will play perfect league, the F2P player much further down. Money is the different between whale and F2P, not the skill.

Disclaimer 2:
When two whales play against each other, skill is the deciding factor, since both play with the same resources. Same with F2P players play against each other.

One of the cards is guaranteed bronze, so also guaranteed not-diamond, and 5:150 is correct.

.
In PT23, I managed 210 packs a week or 30/day. The team I built has an L10 of ~7 million although I paid ~10 million for it because buying cards when they are shiny new is an expensive hobby. Oh, and I didn't start my team until OOTP Go was released which was the first week of August, nor did I buy 1 pack or spend real money, not even buying the game until I was worried I was going to kill my phone it would get so hot. So, they got me for $20 last year.

Although my favorite strategy of spamming quick iron tournaments was badly nerfed there are still ways to adapt and win, but I'm not sure I can master those skills. I am thinking here of live card speculation which is something I didn't do last year, but if done extremely well is worth millions of PP.

If I could do math I would be dangerous....the 10% extra with Plus makes it 2.2 million......I already had 200K in PP

***Revision #2 It is 2.4 million....******

Math is hard

*not sure this merits a response but*

Why would someone want to open 13,000 packs?

I found a post from a developer:

The 5:150 per pack sounds valid for a diamond card.
