Yes, I saw this too: a really great in depth article on the game and Markus. It’s available in the New York Times app. I subscribe to the NYT so I’m not sure if it’s available to non-subscribers, but NYT I think does allow a few free articles to non-subscribers before demanding money. Title of the article: ‘OOTP Baseball:’ How a German programmer created the deepest baseball sim ever made.

Edit: article title appears on NYT as “This Baseball Game Is so Realistic M.L.B. Clubs Are Using It”

Same, I'm not huge on subscription content online, but The Athletic is a really great site. The baseball coverage/writing is excellent (thought they cover the gamut). I'd highly suggest it.

My subscription ran out, and I decided not to renew although I knew I would miss the articles on the sports and teams I follow. I believe it was just $5,99, but when I hit the button "not renew", a message came back and said would you extend for I believe it's $1.66. I'm like sure. And funny thing, I would renew for $5.99 as well.

When I saw the photo of the three amigos and Rich holding a beer, it reminded me of the very long ago meet-ups in NYC (can’t remember if there were one or two). Even though I am an hour from Manhattan, I was unable to attend.

Thanks for that Bru, great article.

I am glad that I discovered OOTP back in the early 2000's. Sure, it had some rough edges, but I knew immediately that it was a completely different kind of baseball game, one for statheads and baseball nerds.

I can't remember whether I have bought every release or not and it doesn't really matter, but I have enjoyed coming along for the ride Markus.

I always joke to friends that it took a German to do Baseball right, but it's true. So... thanks Markus. You have made an awful lot of people happy with your creation. Please excuse our occasional rants and outbursts, as it's done out of love for the game.
