Thanks for posting about the article. It's one of the best things I've read in quite a while. I'm very happy for Markus and the team.
The Athletic is offering a $1/month for 12 months subscription now which is great value. I've been a subscriber since the beginning and think the writing and sports coverage is excellent. |

Yes, I saw this too: a really great in depth article on the game and Markus. It’s available in the New York Times app. I subscribe to the NYT so I’m not sure if it’s available to non-subscribers, but NYT I think does allow a few free articles to non-subscribers before demanding money. Title of the article: ‘OOTP Baseball:’ How a German programmer created the deepest baseball sim ever made.
Edit: article title appears on NYT as “This Baseball Game Is so Realistic M.L.B. Clubs Are Using It” Last edited by 22chill22; 03-24-2023 at 08:56 AM. |

Nice Article in Athletic
As someone who has been with OOTP since the beginning and as a beta tester on and off, it's nice to see this write-up in the Athletic today:

When I saw the photo of the three amigos and Rich holding a beer, it reminded me of the very long ago meet-ups in NYC (can’t remember if there were one or two). Even though I am an hour from Manhattan, I was unable to attend.
Anyone still around that did attend? |

Thanks for the kind words and all the support guys. Without you all, this would have never been possible.
![]() Too bad I am sick with Covid and feel like an old pair of socks, otherwise I'd enjoy a few cold ones now... cheers! |

On the basis of that article, and for old times' sake, I just ordered OOTPB24.

So it's the 25th anniversary of OOTP? Why didn't you guys make a bigger deal of that?

For sure. This is currently on the NYT home page (in their The Athletic links section) and is what drew my eye.
Imagine when I clicked the link and found Markus' face grinning at me! ![]() Of course, I knew it would be OOTPB. What else would it be? ![]()

Thanks for that Bru, great article.
I am glad that I discovered OOTP back in the early 2000's. Sure, it had some rough edges, but I knew immediately that it was a completely different kind of baseball game, one for statheads and baseball nerds. I can't remember whether I have bought every release or not and it doesn't really matter, but I have enjoyed coming along for the ride Markus. I always joke to friends that it took a German to do Baseball right, but it's true. So... thanks Markus. You have made an awful lot of people happy with your creation. Please excuse our occasional rants and outbursts, as it's done out of love for the game. Please take care and get plenty of rest bro. Love ya! ![]()
