Random Owner Goals?

I usually play with the owner goals feature disabled. But starting up ootp24, I just left everything on.

I started a historic league in 1977 and took over the expansion Toronto Blue Jays. Checking out the team, I notice my owner is either VERY optimistic or just plain crazy.

He wants me to (with an expansion team):

-Make the playoffs this year! (Does he know there are no wild card spots available in 1977?)

-Win the World Series next year!

At least they are only 'Average' priority - Does that mean he is joking?

I had no chance to barter with him using the new features as this is the league starting setup, so I would get a chance to negotiate next years goals but not the opening startup goals I am assuming.

Well, Wish me luck - I may just need it!

Owner goals are a nuisance. Turn 'em off, move on.

I always play with owner goals turned off, but I just migrated my save to 24 and because the devs say "new and improved owner goals" I turned them on only to find this:

- Win the championship.
- Sign Bryan Reynolds.
- Acquire an All Star.
- Have a final balance of $27,000,000
- Build a top 6 minor league system.
- Improve your international amateur finds.
- Build a dynasty in the next 6 seasons.

I will check in with you next season.

Needless to say I turned off owner goals. Winning a championship is fine, but what if re-signing Reynolds is not the best option to achieve goal #1 and re-signing Juan Soto is?

$27,000? Why such a specific balance? Seems arbitrary. I could see getting under the luxury tax as a goal, but why $27,000,000?

What does "Improve your international amateur finds" mean? How is that measured? Maybe this will become apparent as I move forward in the season but just reading this goal I am kind of thrown.

What is a "Dynasty"? Define that. Why not say with 3 championships in the next 5 years. I honestly could not imagine a owner, unless he was crazy and/or out of touch, setting this as a goal. Also, are you going to revisit my goal of "building a dynasty in the next 6 seasons" when you check in with me "next season".

I love this game but really with Owner Goals, what's the point? It doesn't make the game more fun or challenging.

The goals should be achievable and measurable, but to achieve them there should be strategy. If your attendance is low, improving that could mean a number of steps you need to take. Maybe you need to sign more popular players. Maybe you have a couple of stars who are terrible with the media impacting how your fans feel about the team. I think every team that becomes popular generates hype and fan interest by how they play but also their personalities and chemistry. That should be factored in. Maybe, the attendance is bad because the team is a loser or it's .500 and it needs a boost which in this case acquiring an all-star might be a step you take.

Also, what is the end game for achieving owner goals? It should be to improve your relationship with your owner which should impact how he interacts with you regarding budgets, signing free agents, etc. If you choose to play with owner goals on.

I would report this in the bug reports forum, if you haven't already done so.
