OOTP 24 Team Selection

Usually when I create a new MLB sim, I simulate a full season and then take over for one of the teams that fired their GM (or expand the league and take over one of them).

But to start 2023, I want to do a full, long sim of 50+ years and don't know which team to start with. As a Royals fan, I lean to starting in KC, but I don't know if that is cheating. Anyone got a good team recommendation? Last year I started with the A's, but the league was corrupted by the talent-randomness and player dev speed in the early stages, so I didn't get as far as I would have liked.

1951 Pirates

You get a lot of talent in the pipeline, and you have Ralph Kiner to trade for a big package of stuff.

I'm creating my 3rd year straight a Mod where it's a brand new Baseball league in Canada and no teams have players or staff just you and your owner and you have to sign your own players and players for your development league to. I plan on working on it on pre release come tuesday

I am certain to try my luck at the Detroit Tigers once again. If their starting pitching can stay somewhat healthy (yeah, it's a big ask) then I could see them do better than last year's disaster. Some of the pieces are in place, but while I am glad to see Avila's backside, I am interested IRL how the new GM drafts and plays the Intl market in '23.

Other teams that interest me this season are the Mariners, Phillies, Cardinals and maybe the Diamondbacks.

Pirate fan here (obviously)

But seriously the 51 Bucs are a great place to start. I started a sim this afternoon, and was able to sign Whitey Ford, Del Crandall, and Joe Nuxhall and was ale to trade Dale Long for Lew Burdette. Also have Wally Westlake playing out of position at 3B and hitting the snot out of the ball in April, plan to try to trade him for a real 3B. Also was able to sign Danny O'Connell and trade him for Roy Sievers.

Start with the Astros in 1965. Opening of the Astrodome. They were starting to amass talent that they eventually traded away that blossomed elsewhere.

I always start with the 1966 Red Sox, to see if I can somehow replicate their miracle year in 1967. So far, I have failed. But will keep trying until I do.

Probably the Reds for me this year. At first, I thought I was going to be the White Sox, but convinced myself of the Reds last week. I like the challenge of having such a small budget/market, and having to churn the roster.

Granted, I do still need to check ratings and whatnot, but I have gotten less anal about these things over the years.

This will hopefully be my first long-term save since OOTP 20, as I have been importing and playing my Marlins save from that game in all of the versions since.

Nice - curious now, has Yaz ever won a TC like real life in your replays?
