Love this time of year but...

Love the days leading up to an OOTP release. The excitement of opening up a new toy. What I don't look forward to is the oncoming..."Is it worth it to upgrade?" posts that are soon to follow. Guys either support the team by spending a whole whopping $35-$40 (doesn't even cover dinner for two nowadays) or don't but the hemming and hawing is rather silly considering the price point. I don't care what you do for a living or where you live $40 is cheap relative to other costs in this day and age. Although to be fair I see this more on the Reddit group. I've NEVER regretted buying a new version of OOTP and I can't say that for a lot of other games I've wasted money on.

If someone considers $40 too much for it, it will be on sale (normally) at the All Star Game. See you then. (shrugs)

What he said. If I were to take the money spent and divide it by the hours played in a year, I'm probably playing for less than $0.03/hour, but that's just me.

I fail to see the point in limiting the conversation on whether it's worth it to upgrade. I've bought every version since ootp 2 because for me it's either worth it or i probably would spend the money on something else.

However ootp has fans of all ages and have different financial obligations.
I have no idea what a game is worth to anyone else or what they can afford.
As that is none of my business.
So why judge whether someone should be able to afford the game?
They may have a gaming budget.
They may be new here.
I don't know the their story.

If someone wants an opinion on whether the game is worth it,
Why not just enjoy talking about what you like or don't like about the game.
Maybe they have a good idea.
If I get tired of anything on the boards I can always just keep scrolling.
Sorry maybe that's just me.

Thank you.
Some of these posts have gone beyond the point of absurd in attempting to defend the game developers.... before the game has even been released.
Frankly, it's an absolute joke.
Who frigging cares about price points (an entirely personal decision that each potential consumer is free to measure on their own, in spite of lordly posts from the chosen) or any other nonsense that detracts from the core issues of whether the game is REALISTIC and playable or not !?!?
Last year, the game was an abomination upon release. It took several iterations to clean the mess up. I think a reasonably realistic version was actually released some time around mid-summer.
THAT IS FACT! No amount of cheerleading - or berating those who honestly critiqued the game - can, or ever will, change THOSE FACTS!
I'm not anticipating the same depth of problems this year. I think there were extenuating circumstances last year.
But thank God for those who see problems and are willing to speak up in spite of the fact that they are bound to be ostracized by the "hard core supporters singing (shouting) from their choir books".
The lap dogs can and will enjoy the improvements and corrections that result from those who honestly critique the game (and trust me, they will)
In the meantime, though, stand tall and be strong....if you see a problem upon release of OOTP24.....HELP THE DEVELOPERS OUT AND POINT IT OUT.....respectfully.....everyone will be better for it....including, unfortunately, those who will rush to berate you for having the gall to point out a flaw.
Seriously. I can't take much more of this "us against them" mentality.
Especially when it's posted pre-emptively....as if it will reduce any critcism, whether deserved or not.
It's everywhere.
It's annoying.
And it offers no value.
Absolutely none.

Console games start at $70 even before all the loot boxes which increase the price, and their consoles start at $400. Ootp at $40 with the price dropping as time goes on is highway robbery.

there are fantastic games 80% of during the year.
why don't you just offer the devs more money the asking price if you think it and they are worth it??
time is my most precious commodity and i don't want to waste it as beta tester and finding things out like i am stuck with HTML reports and tons of other features we have wanted for 20 years

Also, dividing the cost of each iteration by the hours played is an irrational basis for making a decision of whether or not to purchase the game. If they released the exact same product two years in a row, you might (if you played exclusively fictional, for example) get the same play time out of the second as the first for the same price, but you still wasted your money because what matters is the MARGINAL increase in either or both the quantity and quality of time played per dollar spent. People are quite justified in feeling that for them the marginal yearly benefits often do not justify a $40 payment.

When they say “is it worth it” maybe they are not talking about money at all. Maybe they are referring to how stable the game is, how good are the new features, what are the new features, etc.. I am sure they can decide on their own if they can easily afford it. If I was answering the question last April my answer would have been “not at this time” and I am not even talking about price.
If someone asks me today if it worth buying and they have never played it before, I would tell them why I buy it over other baseball games. If the last version they bought was 22 I would tell them about new and lost features since then.

Consoles start at $400?

How much do computers start at? Or do they come free with the game?

Did you own a computer before you first got OOTP or did you buy own just to play OOTP?

If you’re not looking forward to them then…don’t read them? I know that’s some wild out of the box thinking, but I guess I’m just crazy like that. Like, you can tell from the subject what the post is going to be about, so all you have to do is…not click on it. It’s not like they’re hiding them in vague, click baity threads with ambiguous titles like “Love this time of year but…” They’re very straightforward and to the point, like if this thread had been titled “ITT local privileged man tells other people how to value their money” - and if this thread had that title, I can assure you I wouldn’t have read it, because I don’t like reading privileged people displaying how out of touch with the lives and financial situation of other people - and when I don’t look forward to reading something, I tend to not read it when I know I’m in a situation where I can either read it or not read it. But I opened it and was subjected to the written diarrhea that is the OP, and here we are.

For me, I’ve already made my choice, regardless of what features are or are not present - as a rule, I’m not going to support a company that has chooses to remove a nation and all of its teams and leagues from their game, and I will not be making an exception in this case. But if I were going to buy the game and I thought it was worth it, rather than whining about people trying to decide for themselves if it’s worth it or not and expecting them to just blindly agree with me, I would either actively participate in the conversation in a positive way in hopes of convincing them why it’s worth it, or I would…ignore them. But, hey, that’s just me.

Sure doesn't sound like you have much interest is supporting the team. I'm guessing when you did buy the game you bought it from Steam just so Markus wouldn't get all the money. If you do change your mind, a group of us are meeting at local VFW1507 in Marion Springs Michigan. Sheila Mangopulp is painting faces and giving a seminar on loyalty.

More apples and oranges. If the price of a console is relevant to the conversation, so is the price of a computer. Regardless of what you bought it for, you need it to play the game.

Everyone's situation is different. I had a few years where I had to scape the $$$ together to get OOTP. With the cost of living skyrocketing, $40 is a lot to some people and they do have to make tough decisions. Some decide to hold off for a sale at the All Star break or just wait another month until a few bills are caught up.

I know the phrase "beating a dead horse" has been around forever but were people always this obsessive about continuing a pointless argument? It's like they think if they complain and rant and hold their breath and maybe throw a tantrum or two they'll finally get their way.

In my experience in the Reddit group, there isn't a season for this - it's a year-round occurrence.
