Add Minor League to Historical Save
I have a historical save (1901 MLB - see link below) that I would like to add minor league(s) rather than using the current reserve roster. I am unsure of the best way to do this without messing up the file. I am almost to the trading deadline in the season, and okay to wait until next season to make the change but would be open to do it now if possible. Any insight on timing/process is appreciated.

Which are you looking to do?
a) Simply add minor leagues so you have somewhere for your reserve roster guys to play? or b) Add historical minor leagues - leagues, teams, minor-league players - to your save? I would think that a) would be pretty simple. I did a test that started in 1970, just MLB. Then, just before the transition from the 1975 playoffs to the offseason - which is exactly when you'd want to do this - I add 1 minor league (AAA), via League Settings > League & Teams. After advancing to the offseason, the new minor league was there - one affiliate per MLB team... (In my league I didn't have enough players that transitioned from the reserve roster to the new minor league teams. But I'm sure that's because I'm in total replay mode - historical transactions, etc... You probably won't have that problem assuming your teams are carrying enough reserve players already...) As for adding a league in the middle of your season, I was able to do that, on July 1st 1977, but there was no schedule. So I tried generating a fictional one but that created a schedule for the following (1978) season. I was unable to import a schedule because I would need to find one that matched the league (that I added)'s structure, etc. And even if I found one, I don't know whether than schedule would apply to 1977 or 1978... So for this option - adding in the middle of the season - I would advise that you test then heck out of it before trying it for real... If it were me, though, I'd just wait until the end of the playoffs to add the minor league(s). I wasn't sure about b) but I had a test league that started in 1940 and I was in the middle of the 1946 playoffs when I checked the "Import and maintain real minor leagues" box on the Historical options panel. Nothing happened right away, but when my league transitioned from Playoffs to Offseason, the change to include full minors seemed to happen flawlessly... That said, you'll run into issues where some lower-level teams do not have enough players, and even some AAA teams (the unaffiliated ones) will not have full rosters... but this is not unique to my scenario nor yours. Hope this helps! |

thehef - thank you for the response and effort, it was a great help. Yes, I am looking for reserve players to play and have stats. I will follow your advice on timing and add the league in after the playoffs but before moving to the offseason. Again, thanks for taking the time with this one -- I really appreciate it.
