Others will make fun of us, EC, but I totally share your enthusiasm and wonder. Maybe it’s having been around so long. Like Sweed, I played Strat and then APBA, and assiduously kept my own stats. I taught my three boys to do the same. If my self fifty years ago could have imagined something like OOTP, it would have seemed like magic. Like a phone carrying 1000 songs to play. Or a car that parks itself. With all these changes, the game itself as played today would be totally familiar to my ten-year-old self, going to Connie Mack Stadium.

Wow, can't believe people are just discovering the custom leaderboard on the standings page. I fell in love with it right away, another minor addition that has a BIG impact.

I too have a strat background. Did anyone else go to NJ on opening day to get their cards? Made the 5-hour trip many times. There was a Friendlys on the way back to Mass, We would stop there and spend hours "scouting" for the next draft, and calling other guys to tell them about their players.
But back to OOTP EC thanks for the positive thread,

Speaking of discovering things in the game. I have used the baseball cards throughout the years but just recently discovered in the team home page>baseball cards>make team picture.
I don't usually use this page using the managers office mostly but how could I miss this.
I've seen the championship team pictures but always wished I could capture opening day pictures of all the teams and now I can.

Baseball cards. It is the very last thing I do before I play the first game of the season.

OOTP automatically uses the home uniform for the team picture, but sometimes I do want the road jerseys. For example, if a team wins the championship on the road, to get the team picture with the away jersey, the way it would be if an actual team picture was taken that night, an easy workaround is to replace the home jersey with the away jersey in the team's graphics settings. Then after I screenshot the photo I change it back.

I count my blessings that we have a new version every year. I played every versions since #1 and buying the game every year is a no brainer. The day they stop will be a very sad day for the fans of this gaming franchise.

Sorry, mytreds, EC is an old geezer that knows little about social media.

Had to look up "copium".

For others uniformed like EC, this is what it means
:
Slang... copium is not a recognized word yet.

Copium is a combination of Cope (creating a psychological defense of a lighter belief to deal with a harsh truth) and Opium (a Drug). Copium in Twitch chat refers to the use of this fictional drug to cope with loss or failure on stream.

Yep, my favorite addiction is OOTP... and it has recently intensified in my life... EC is high on OOTP... and getting higher... and will probably get even higher when OOTP24 comes out.

I have to admit with the cluster you know what that happened recently with that league, I was turned off on the game. Then I made the decision that my desire to build the perfect (for me) baseball world would die with OOTP23. Then I found a silver lining in the whole situation. I could now finally put in the time and effort to make said world. I wouldn't get bored and want to move to the newest version of OOTP for the shiny new toys it'd would have. I'm making my world begin in 2022 so a lot of the work won't change from
the default data and I found a surprise. I'm more motivated than I've been in months to play (setup) the game. I've completed two ncaa conferences in less than a week. So what was a huge negative for me, has become a huge plus in reality

Agree, especially on impact. My OOTP games are almost exclusively historical and rarely go past the 80's, maybe 90's, and I spend a lot of time in earlier eras. So while I can appreciate the usefulness of stats like WAR, OPS, WHIP, etc., those numbers don't mean anything to me unless I'm comparing them, player to player. They don't have the instant meaning that the traditional stats - the ones I grew up with - have... That, and it just seems strange to be looking at modern analytics when I'm immersed at the moment in, say the 1920's, and want to instead see era-appropriate statistics

so true

my NFL rooting season just ended in the most unsatisfactory way

the high school team I coach has tryouts next Monday - so getting in the baseball mood again so today I fired up some OOTP to get in the mood and played a 1979 game in my long running play every game replay I have that is about 10 real years old

completely immersed, loved every second of it - even after all this time a 30 min OOTP fix is usually what I am craving.

I would never make fun of someone for enjoying something.
I am glad they enjoy it and envy that they can get something out of it every year.

I wish I could do the same, but not everything on earth has to be for every person to enjoy.
Maybe one day a new version or new feature will re-kindle my love of the series.

Until then I am glad there are people who find joy in playing this series.

To wish unhappiness upon others just because I personally have issues with some of the directions the series has taken is just sadistic.
