Issue With Historical Drafts
Hey there, I am looking for help regarding the draft pool creation for a historical leagues set in 1996.
I am able to set the league up so that players enter the draft based on their MiLB debut, but my issue is the game continues to juice up players who never made the MLB. Often times its relievers, and it almost seems as though it is treating stats from BC/DE leagues as though they are MLB leagues. Guys like Johan Santana and Tim Hudson come in rated as you would expect for a draft prospect, but guys like Brett Black and Andy Smith (neither of whom made it past A-Ball) are rated as MLB ready Ps. I am able to deduce the issue, just not the fix. The players that are juiced had great years in rookie leagues and A ball the year they entered the draft. It is valuing those players low level stats as MLB level stats. Please any help or insight is welcomed.

Both are merely relievers. Andy Smith had no homers allowed (movement), 12.4 Strikeouts per nine and (decent stuff for the 90's) and lowish control at 2.9 BB per nine.
Brett Black had 0.4 HR/9, 14.5 SO/9 and 0.4 BB/9 for great control. Relative to everyone else's minor league stats for that draft class, that looks about what those stats should generate. Will the development engine grab them and give them a chance of MLB glory? Will they taper off as the real-life stats go empty? That's what the fictional replay of 1996 lets you find out... ![]() But to weaken them, let's look further... One has 40 IP and the other 41 IP, so they just clear the minimum sample size, so the game doesn't ding them. So, I'd recommend making the bar higher. When making the league go to the Advanced Settings on Step 1 of the import wizard and set the 40 IP to 45 IP. That should help. Here is a screenshot of the advanced options on that first screen. That's the first place I'd try to make an adjustment. But a 3 and a 4-star relief pitcher draftee shouldn't make or break the realism as time goes by.

I appreciate the attempt to help but I think you are missing the point, likewise this was the first solution I attempted. I don't play with recalc on so the 'real life stats go empty' portion is entirely meaningless. The players no doubt had great years in Rookie/A-Ball in '97, but that shouldn't be causing them to come in as MLB-Ready elite relievers. In past OOTPs, that was not how it functioned....
The 'OOTP dev engine' bit you stated really has no impact on the issue. They aren't coming in with high potential, they're coming in as All-Star caliber relievers. Current ratings are juiced for these guys, not Potential. Those two specific guys are coming in with 70-80 Control Ability and as 3.5* or more. Additionally, while I stated RPs are the most common and used these two for examples, there are 10+ RPs a draft that fall into this 'juiced never played above A-Ball' category and 2-3 position players.
