Promotion and Relegation

I was in a Bronze League last week. Had 109 wins and had the best record in the league. Lost to the wildcard team in the best of 5 series and today I see I wasn't promoted.

Is promotion based on playoff results or the regular season?

Playoff results can trump the regular season - especially if you lose to a wildcard team.

Thanks for the reply.

I think it's rather dumb that 5 games can wipe out an entire season of work in terms of pro/rel but now I know how it works. I'll tell my players to not lose next time.

When you think about it, playoffs in sports like baseball are a bit nonsensical. The 162 games played are a much better determinant of which team is the best than is a progression of short series. It made more sense back in the day when the AL and NL played separately and you had the two champions face off. Don’t get me wrong, the playoffs and World Series are exciting but they are just a tournament.

Something wonky happened if you were in the WC round with the best record in the league, too.

OP says they lost to the wildcard team in the Best of 5 (Division Series), not the wildcard series. So I presume they lost to the winner of one of the Best of 3 wildcard series matches.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread; I was looking for an answer to OP's question. And wanted to thank HRBaker for providing an answer.

I have the best record in my Rookie league and have a BYE for the wildcard series. It's my first Perfect Team, and I love it! But I'm new to the peculiarities of Pro/Rel and was curious to see if I'd be stuck in Rookie if I lost in the playoffs.

Only the top 4 playoff teams get promoted. If you lose the best of 5 series in the division series, you will miss the promotion.

The most ridiculous pro sports playoff

Is undoubtedly the Stanley Cup. The length of the tournament, coupled with the heightened physicality of play, pretty much guarantees that injuries will be a major determinant of the outcome rather than skill on the ice.

I get it, it's about the TV and ticket revenue that the sport generates, but IMO they should whistle EVERYTHING in the Cup chase rather than damned near nothing short of decapitation.

I saw after my first two games this week that 8 teams were listed as going to be promoted/relegated in my league. I was surprised, so I checked the universal screen (listing all leagues) and it said the same for all league levels. I was kinda excited by that change...but it looks like it's back to saying 4 teams are promoted/relegated now, in each league. Wonder if they're thinking about changing that to 8 and turned something on too early by accident? Or maybe little glitches like that are common here, I haven't been playing this long.

Promotions

They typically promote lots of teams early to fill up the pyramid, then once the pyramid gets filled they go back to 4's, and only the WS winner from Diamonds.
