Historical Roster Management - Opinions, please!
So I have a question for the masses:
The way that I see it, as time goes on Historical roster management is maddeningly bad. Players get signed to big, long term deals and almost immediately are available for pennies on the dollar in the trade market. I'm all for policing my own trades, I do it all the time anyway, but come on this has to be better. I havent played the game in 6+ months because of this, and I'm probably skipping OOTP 24 because of this, and the myriad of half finished features, but that's a different post for another time. I have a theory about the historical roster management and it revolves around salaries. My theory is that the financial situation changes too rapidly year to year, and historical teams just don't know how to handle it, so I was wondering if anyone has tried this and might be able to share an opinion to save me some time and testing: Has anyone started a historical save utilizing modern financials, or even just locking financials and limiting financial evolution? From what I've seen the game seems to handle modern roster management a lot of effectively than historical, and I'm wondering if this is a factor. Thanks!

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...3&postcount=33 And lots of others have as well. I think the FA signing works well, but the buyer's remorse is wicked. I have not seen it as an issue in historical per se, but it's been reported as an issue in nearly all play types - even modern in my experience - so I think it is just a universal issue of not rationalizing one's FA actions immediately after executing them. It's not a united mind with regard to budget implications. Hopefully there is a focus on it in 24 as it's been called out sufficiently on the boards. Worst case is turning financials off. A middle road is giving everyone else a lot more money after the offseason (pick TV revenue) so the AI doesn't act so desperate during the season to unload players they just signed.

I believe the old editions of the game are only avail as demos and those are generally out there just so people on old versions can step their games up version by version to the latest edition.

I was astounded by the free agent deals in my most recent offseason. The money outstripped the mega-deals we are seeing IRL. My mistake, I think, may have been to increase the national media revenue before the FA singing period commenced. Giving every team “stupid money” was a bad idea. I fully expect buyer’s remorse.
Next year I am only going to selectively increase local media revenue for the bottom-feeders like Pittsburgh (New Orleans for me), Tampa (Montreal for me), KC, Oakland, Miami, and a few other struggling teams. I hope they use it wisely. My two expansion teams Buffalo and Charlotte) were very active in signing free agents. Each had great first-year attendance, and low payrolls, so they were flush with cash.

Have you thought about ticking down your AI trade frequency setting? What is it on at the moment?

I just wish the AI would do two things: 1. Actually value the financials of a deal and 2. understand what a friggin rivalry is.
