FHM no longer works on Mac

Since the latest OSX update I can no longer open FHM 7, 8 or 9.

I don't believe this is a steam issue as none of my other games are experiencing this.

I have tried reinstalling all 3 FHM's I own as well as reinstalling Steam but nothing has resolved the issue.

Any ideas on how this can be resolved please?

Basically, Apple is being "helpful" again, this time by adding a setting that quarantines, by default, apps that were not downloaded from the Mac store. There are a few ways to get around it, these articles list some options:

(If nothing else works, the xattr option, described in detail in the last article, should do the trick)

None of these tricks work with the Steam version of FHM 9 on a Mac. Completely broken.

What's it saying when you try to play it? Have you tried a fresh reinstall?

Never mind, figured it out. For reference:

Go to /Users/<homefolder>/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Franchise Hockey Manager 9/Franchise Hockey Manager 9.app

control-click on the app there, a popup will ask to launch or move to trash, click launch, an error will pop up saying to use the Steam client to launch it. Go to the Steam client, launch the app, and it will launch from now on without issue - from both the Steam app or anywhere else, like the stub file in <homefolder\applications.

Just for the record I'm on a Mac and didn't seem to have any of the issues mentioned on this thread.

None of these worked for me, even the xattr (I just get no such xattr even when pasting the path in, or the -cr solution which is supposed to be a last resort doesn't fix it) - so the Steam version is completely broken for me. I'm on an M2 MacBook Air using Ventura 13.1.

To recap: get same 'app is damaged' - reinstalls don't work. The control-click option doesn't work (same error), as is adding the app via developer options to avoid quarantine, or even using terminal. Same error, won't load. Not sure whether it's related, but I also only get a generic steam icon/logo in my folder - not the FHM one like in the past - though the last time I got it it was on an Intel Mac.

Any other ideas?

PS: I also have the latest OOTP via Steam, works fine.

Try a complete uninstall and reinstall from the Steam library (and then the same fixes again, if it still happens after that.) If that doesn't work, I can get you a key for the non-Steam version and we can see if that makes any difference.

Perhaps needless to say, but that didn't work either. I've asked for a refund from Steam, and will try buying it (at Apple's marked-up prices, naturally) from the App Store instead and will see if that makes it play ball.

it did for me ... in my infinite genius I accidentally deleted some important files while modding, and it completely broke my Steam install, same issues as people have listed above

since it was my own dumb fault, and since the sale price is good and I don't mind buying this game twice to help the cause (and remove Steam from the equation) I downloaded the stand-alone w/ a key and it works fine now
