Spring Training substitutions
In spring training games players are being substituting for defensively without any way to prevent it. This was not the case in OOTP 21 (not sure about 22, I skipped that version).
Example. In spring training games I set the players I want to learn new positions to "Never lift for a pinch hitter". This used to work fine in OOTP 21, the players would rarely be substituted during spring training games. Now in OOTP 23 I have set the same settings for the never lift for pinch hitter. I have even set the players to not be defensively swapped until at least the 9th inning. My team strategy says not to swap defensively until at least the 7th inning. Magically, players are still being swapped defensively in the 5th inning during spring training games. Could this be fixed? It is really annoying during spring training specifically as this is when you can get your players to learn a new position fairly quickly. In future games maybe consider a straight up button that says "Never lift for a defensive player", although you would think just not having a player in the lineup as a defensive substitution would send this message but that does not seem to be the case. If I'm doing it wrong or missing something obvious please let me know. Files have been uploaded and are called oba.zip Thank you. Last edited by Subliminal; 12-07-2022 at 03:06 PM. |

The "never pinch hit" setting is checked before any other options, so it should not pinch hit for them in any situations, even spring training. Otherwise, anyone starting the game will tend to be lifted after 2-3 ABs.
Anyone you see being lifted early with that "never pinch hit" option set, how are they being replaced? Are they actually being pinch hit for, or being subbed out on defense, or as part of a double-switch. In any event, players do not need to play the full game in spring to progress on their training. Even 4-5 innings there should not impact their progress for the game. |

Thanks for the reply, appreciate it.
The player is not being pinch hit for so the never pinch hit is working still, but the player is being substituted on defense in the 5th inning during spring training games. My team strategy for defensive substitutions are set to 7th+ inning and any lead and as well during spring training I had the individual player strategy for "Min inning to remove for defensive sub" set to 9th as there is no setting for "hey don't substitute this guy on defense ever" option. Also, I removed all defensive substitutions from my lineups. The players still get substituted for on defense in spring training in the 5th inning. I would expect due to my team settings they would be subbed for in the 7th at best, and in the 9th if the player setting was being acknowledged as well. I get that this is what usually happens in real life spring training games, but if I want to force a guy out there for all the defensive training he can get I should be able to as this was the case previous to these defensive settings hitting the game. Don't get me wrong, I really like these settings, more customization is great, I just wish those settings would work during spring training is all. For what it's worth I don't see anything that would indicate that they aren't working during the regular season but I haven't looked too deeply into it. Thanks again, and I appreciate you time! |
