The Cuban conundrum.

Everyone seems to set up their Cuban league differently. If you set them up realistically they'll be pretty boring and just take up space. I think a good alternative is to allow for posting of SNB players to simulate the defection of established league players and also allow for a small percentage of amateur discoveries to simulate younger Cuban's who defect and never played in SNB. Allowing full free agents from SNB is a bit much from reality. What do others do?

I don't include an actual Cuban League, but I have Cuba included as a Nation for Scouting Discoveries and also for IAFA.

I keep the % low so I don't get flooded with Cuban players after a while.

I leave it as it is and every 2 to 3 seasons, I will go look at the league and if I see a player that looks like he could be at least a solid MLB player, I will manually move them to the free agent pool and let teams bid on him/them. Every so often there will be a player who jumps right to the majors, but most guys end up playing in the minors for a bit. Not perfect, but simulates defection.

Personally I normalize diplomatic relations, expand to Havana, and include Cuban players in the amateur draft.

This isn't just hopeful politics. I feel like it game terms I want to have some established international free agents, but the ones generated for Cuba and Japan are too good and destabilize the league. Plus you get this problem when they retire where you have legendary players who played at a HOF level from ages 27-37, but they will never get in. So I turn those two countries off for IFA.

Cuba now has a new league that can compete in the Caribbean Series. It is called the Cuban Elite League and only has about 6 teams. Its purpose is likely to consolidate talent, thereby making the teams much better in quality. It is the new winter league in Cuba. It is thought it may become a professional league at some point, ditching its amateur status. That remains to be seen however.

As for the CNS, it still exists (for now) and is scheduled for the spring...so it is no longer the premier winter league in Cuba.
