Using Independent leagues rather than amateur draft
I'm roughing out a scenario for a fictional universe that will start in 1890 and hopefully move through to the modern day and beyond.
Since I'm starting so far back I'd like to not use the amateur draft until closer to when it started being used in the 1960s. To accomplish that I'm thinking of creating a number of independent leagues with varying skill levels (all AAA or lower) and having the major leagues get their new players from those leagues rather than through the draft. Has anyone got experience in setting up a league like that? What things do I need to keep an eye out for? Would adding minor league systems for the MLB teams be possible? I'd also like to retain the reserve-clause rules until at least post WW2 and I'm considering creating a west coast major league in the late 40s early 50s. |

By Default Indy leagues dont have a draft and have generate free agents disabled. So how would you plan on injecting free agents into the Indy leagues?
You could create a custom feeder league and just change the names and the age limits to create older players then remove the feeder league from actually feeding into any league and the players instead of going to some draft would just get dumped into the free agent pools. |
