After the game, Robinson Lopez came to us and told us that he is announcing his retirement at the end of the season.

He is 37 years old but only made his Major League debut at 32.

Other than 2 appearances with Minnesota in 1989, all of his 82 games pitched were with Toronto.

He was a member of the 1986 World Series Winning team.

Pedro Velasquez of Cornwall was named Player of the Week for his AAA league.

For the Majors it was Jeff Bagwell, Brewers & David Martinez, Braves

The Jays are still in the basement on the Weekly Power Rankings.

It paid off for Velazquez as he got the call-up!

Gene Holden was sent down.

After a discussion with Robinson Lopez, rather than waiting until the end of the season, the Jays have granted him his release now. We thanked him for his five years of service.

Wes Sweet was called up from Cornwall.

The Blue Jays played this game under protest after the Rangers blatantly broke the lineup rules.

Their starting pitcher, Bob Braddock, also hit so the Rangers declined the DH. When Braddock left the game, Braddock stayed in as the DH, which is absolutely against the rules.

To make matters worse, Braddock tripled and scored in the 12th to give the Rangers a walk-off, 9-8 win.

Miguel Rivera hit a Grand Slam for Toronto.

That is five losses in a row for the Jays, but they were robbed.

WP - Tucker Garland (1-2)
LP - Art Powell (0-1)

Record - 33-59

NOTE: For anyone who doesn't understand this, that move only became legal in 2022. It is known as the Ohtani rule.
