Minor League Stats and Modifiers Question

I'm a couple season into a 2022 Live Start and noticed that my minor league stats are pretty wonky. One major problem is that the walk rate for each minor league is way too high. I took a look at the Stats/AI page for the minors and noticed that "Automatically Control In-Game Engine" was checked for each minor league by default.

I'm pretty sure that this option was not selected by default for the minors in OOTP22 so I was wondering if that might be causing an issue with messed up stats. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding turning off that option or not? I'm a little confused about what it actually does and wasn't able to find much online about it.

Also, I noticed that the "automatically adjust league totals for accuracy" was unchecked for all minor leagues too. However, it is always on by default for the MLB. Is there a particular reason not to have that selected for the minors?

I use a variety of historical stats for my minor leagues, dependent upon the level and type of save, because yes the default LTMs are dreadful.

I just leave them for every season by locking the totals and then using manual autocalc on OD to fine tune them. Works well, although still nowhere near as tightly as the majors for obvious reasons.

I only have the LOCK LEAGUE TOTALS checked for my minors. I have found that the AUTO ADJUST only works for the top level, which is why I do the minors manually.

I've never even paid attention to the Lock League Totals option before. And just to clarify, you don't have the "Automatically Control In-Game Engine" checked for minors?

IT just means the totals stay constant and then the autocalc nudges the LTMs to produce those stats or thereabouts. Some worry that this can be boring but I still see outliers from year to year.

And, no, I do not. I tried it once and it made everything completely out of whack when I did autocalc.

Ok, I will unclick that option before next season starts. Hopefully that will help with the stat totals in the minors.

for more details and some statistical discussion on minors, check out the rest of the thread. It focused on HRs, but I think it applies to all stats as well and hopefully will address your concerns. I know it did for me. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=340517

Thanks for sharing those links. If I am understanding correctly from that thread, it appears the suggestion is to keep "automatically control in-game engine" checked, but also use auto calc for the minors?

Earlier I created a dupe of my league to test some options in, and I took off "automatically control in-game engine", and just ran auto calc in each minor league. It seemed to help considerably with the extreme walk numbers I was getting, and the overall numbers looked much more realistic.

I guess will keep the "in game engine" checked for my next season and be sure to also run autocalc for the minors. Hopefully that will keep the stats in check.

As I mentioned above, I have used this with autocalc with disastrous results - so I'll be interested to see what happens with yours. Matt is usually spot on with his recommendations, but this was a flailing strikeout for me. Could have just been one of those things, which is why I await your experience eagerly.

Well I just ran a test using the "automatically control in-game engine" option and running autocalc and the stats got wonky again. Walks and homer totals jumped up across the minors. It was almost like clicking the 'automatically control in-game engine' overrode the changes made to the modifiers.

The results came out much better in my previous test when I just did autocalc for each minor league and unclicked the "automatically control in-game engine" box. The offense might have been a touch on the low side, but walks, homers, and strikeouts looked pretty good.

I think I will stick with using auto calc for the minors for this next season and see if I keep getting decent results. The default modifiers for the minors are weird, and since I play in Challenge Mode, I can't manually adjust them.

Yep, exactly what happened with me. If, after the autocalc the numbers are a bit low, just tick them up a bit manually.

What I find to work for me is to MANUALLY run the auto calc league modifiers on OPENING DAY and keep the "automatically control in game engine" checked.
