Cap Hit after trade

I noticed that Toronto had traded for Eichel and Hintz. With their cap problems and main core still with the team seemed unreal so when I checked their contract page.. Eichels 10mil cap hit was reduced to 1.5mil after trade and same with Hintz

They literally got him for free.. I thought big emphasis was put on balancing the trading this update

Can you upload that save (instructions here)? it shouldn't be possible for the AI to retain more than 50% of a contract's value in a trade, and I can't find any similar situations to this after looking through a few test saves.

I traded for Eichel afterwards for obvious reasons lol, but Hintz is still on Leafs if that matters at all

Very odd, I can see the retained cap hit on Vegas, so it's definitely a retained salary deal, but the amount retained should be impossible - it's way beyond the limit, and it's the amount retained is an odd number when the AI's cap retention should always be a multiple of 5% and Eichel's base cap hit is a nice round $10m. Trade context also really doesn't make sense, it's well past the typical season-start camp dump period and nothing has happened to Vegas like an injury return that could prompt a cap crisis. Going to have to dig into this further.

I also noticed that sometimes in the manager news feed we can see the salary retention agreed on in a trade. I just witnessed an AI trade where a 25% salary retention should have occured according to the news, but after inspection of the cap obligation screen the retention did not happen and the receiving team have the whole cap hit. Not sure if this deserves a specific new thread so I'm using this one since the issue seems to be related

Damn, I continued my save and the trade was last season, so I did not find it in my news feed and I can't double check. I took a look at the teams last year transactions log though, and if my memory serves me right it was the Kaut / Sheary trade between the Avs and the Capitals, that happened the 16th february 2025. I'm not 100% sure because the news that spoke about the 25% salary retention disapeared from my news feed though, so I hope I got the good transaction.
