I'm currently very sad to hear about the unexpected death of my all-time favorite baseball player yesterday, of course. But many, if not most or all, of us will not leave this world still alive, of course, for sure. I really wanted to somehow meet him the day that I then went to my only in-person MLB game to date, if not the only such game I'll ever definitely attend for my entire mortal life. But certain things didn't actually work out that way well enough for me and those I went to the aforementioned MLB game with, unfortunately. I did, however, at least see him get the save against the Mets on Father's Day 1984, when we won 6-3 against them despite two Strawberry home runs against us that day.
Bruce Sutter is still my favorite all-time baseball player, and I believe he always will be, in this life, at least. Of course, I most definitely hope he knew Jesus as he needed to in his life, as best as possible for him, for I still would really like to meet him one day, for sure. Although that potential meeting of him can now only take place in eternity, you know, folks. EC, did you ever get to meet Stan Musial in person for yourself? Just wondering, that's all, you see. I really hope you did, but if you didn't, I hope you somehow get to see him in the Kingdom, once eternity begins for us all, for sure. CD out.

I met Bill Buckner several years ago... my sister lives in Idaho and I went to see the Boise Hawks... Buckner was the manager... I went to the club house after the game and he came to the door... I complimented him on his fine MLB career... he was a nice person... it's a shame that he is remembered for losing the World Series to the NY Mets... Buckner was a fine fielder and an excellent contact hitter with some pop... it just wasn't his day. Have also met a few future major leaguers when I was a ball boy for the Mobile Bears in the Southern Association in the late 1950s... Gary Bell, Bill Dailey, Dick Stigman, Dick Brown, Jim Gentile and Gordy Coleman... they all played for the Bears. One night I got to be the visiting bat boy... the Bears were playing Chattanooga... spoke to Harmon Killebrew four times that night when he was waiting in the on-deck circle... Killebrew was a very nice guy... Gary Bell fanned him the first three times he batted... he asked me what was he going to do in his last at-bat that night... he was leading the Southern League in homers... I replied, "hit a homer".... Killebrew told me he was going to get his 3 swings and call it a night... yep, that's what happened... Gary "Ding Dong" Bell whiffed him on three pitches... I think Gary fanned 15 Chattanooga Lookouts that night in his last Mobile game... Cleveland promoted him to San Diego in the Pacific Coast League the last third of the 1957 season... didn't do well there... he went 1-5 for the Padres with a 4.56 ERA... but he was 6-2 with San Diego in the early part of the 1958 season with a 1.56 ERA... Cleveland called him up to the big leagues in June and he began a fairly good career... Bell was 12-10 in his rookie season with a 3.31 ERA ...in 12 seasons Gary was 121-117 with a 3.68 ERA... a 4-time All-Star.... not too bad of a career... he really was a great guy... he and Bill Dailey really treated me well... they would kid around and tease me a lot... yep, that was some good times in my life... they are both still alive... it would be nice to see them again. Dailey had a fine season with the Minnesota Twins in 1962... he was an excellent reliever... 66 games... 6-3 record with a 1.99 ERA and 21 saves... but then had arm trouble and retired.in 1963. Jim Gentile and Gordy Coleman both had solid major league careers. Stan Musial stats Last edited by Eugene Church; 10-15-2022 at 01:53 PM. |

CD, I’m really sorry about Bruce Sutter. The first thing I thought of when I heard of his passing was you, since you mentioned numerous times that he was your favorite player.
EC, you mentioned that you met Bill Buckner. He died recently as well. He was on an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm and it was a joy seeing him act on that show. He was able to joke about what happened with the ball rolling through his legs, so he didn’t let that moment define him. He had a good sense of humor about it. |

Hartford Whalers items so far
New items for the Hartford Whalers, as requested by jg2977, with less shading, or less dark shading, at least. That is all. CD out.

I still have the original items I made for them, of course, you know. But these new items do look nice too, I think. Maybe not quite as good in my view as the other ones are, but they still do look fairly nice to me here, just the same. CD out.

Chapter 16 is probably going to require at least some work to make it better, in time, of course, but for now, at least, I think I can accept it during the first-draft process for Lighting Up the Darkness. It won't be much longer before my birthday comes again in February, and I really do want to get the first draft of it done just as soon as possible. I've got at least eight or nine chapters left of a planned 25 chapters, at least, to write for it, and at least two of the chapters may be longer chapters to write. So I can't potentially waste any more time on chapter 16 for it right now, for sure, if I'm actually going to be able to somehow finish the entire first draft of it by my birthday.
I'll probably need to start writing chapter 17 almost immediately, and it's expected to be another long chapter, in truth. I'm thinking at least 25 pages in length, if not more, for that's where I plan to have the book's climactic scene ultimately occur for it, just before I then begin the book's denouement process in the following chapter of the story. The denouement process should have eight chapters in it, with only one more big chapter left in the book during it. I'm really not looking forward to another big chapter when it comes to the chapter with the current story's final battle in it, to be honest. For I'll likely have to use at least ten different narrators in the chapter, and not just one, as I've been using all story long so far. That's mainly because my narrator certainly won't be able to be in ten or more places at once, for obvious reasons, during the fighting for that final battle. And I'm certainly going to have to do a great deal more research by that time, as well, no doubt. While I might be able to use some of my memories of ground combat, at least, from my prior activity in Star Trek Online, for instance, when it comes to ship-to-ship combat, it might be a bit harder to write those parts well, during that chapter. Such combat won't necessarily translate well to planet-bound naval combat in some version of the 16th Century AD, for instance, I think, for obvious reasons. Ground combat, it might, but ship-to-ship combat, it might not. I'll almost certainly, if not certainly, need to do a good deal more research about military-related things, for sure, in any case, before I get to writing that chapter here, folks. Talk more later, as time allows and all, I'm sure. Lord willing and all, of course, as always, you know. Thank you all for your time and attention and all here, then, for sure, folks. CD out.

I probably like the new Marvelized logos for the Asheville Tourists, Augusta GreenJackets, Buffalo Bisons, Northwest Arkansas Naturals, Salt Lake Bees, and Somerset Patriots the best so far. Sugar Land's new logo in that style doesn't look too bad, either, and Lansing's logo looks interesting as well.
I'm not too keen on the one for the Great Lakes Loons, nor the one for the Worcester Red Sox, among others, though. The Las Vegas Aviators' Marvel-stylized logo doesn't really impress me much, either, for example. While I know Las Vegas is well-known for being an entertainment mecca and all, of course, the look of that still feels rather forced to me here, somehow, in truth. What do you all think here, folks, of the new Marvel-style logos for certain teams that have been released so far? What are your hopes for those teams who've not yet had their new looks revealed by the time you read this post here, but which are scheduled to have such looks revealed for them at some point? Please feel free to comment and all, as you like and can, within reason and all, of course. CD out.

In general I don't like the Marvel designs... they are too fancy and sometimes weird.
Asheville is fine... not too, too fancy... modern, but traditional still. Buffalo Bison... fine... not overdone which is what the Marvel series usually does... still in the traditional logo style. Northwest Arkansas... really bad... poorly designed... the old one was much better and gave you a sense of the Ozarks and clean, fresh air and the out of doors. Salt Lake Bees... too modern... Bee is too scary and has a weird alien look... but I like the SL if they use it. Somerset Patriots... modern, but nice... prefer the old logo... I like simple logos. Sugar Land Space Cowboys... good nickname, but poor logo design... should have used a cowboy on a bucking rocket ship. Lansing Lugnuts... this is nice... no problem with it... modern, but still traditional. In general I prefer traditional logos... not modernized too much... also like traditional names... in my opinion too many teams are creating poor nicknames now... New Orleans Baby Cakes... Rocket City Trash Pandas... Montgomery Biscuits... I understand they are try to increase merchandise sales...minor league baseball is not about competition anymore... it's all about developing the players and selling caps and jerseys... and creating entertainment for the young fans, who go to game to be entertain and eats hot dogs, not to watch the game. The Savannah Bananas are ridiculous... EC will never go to one of their games... sorry, I'm tired of seeing people spin around with a bat and get dizzy and fall down.. and watching mascots race around the field... tired of loud music and songs for batters... just play baseball... I am old fogey... a baseball dinosaur... I go to watch a game... I keep score at the game... watch every pitch... most people don't pay much attention to the game... it's all about the food and the theatrics... and the game outcome is meaningless to the major league teams... all they care about is the player development... developing a winning team is not a factor... however, some MLB teams are beginning to realize that it is good to keep the players together throughout their minor-league careers and try to win games and pennant in the minors... this instills a winning tradition that could carry over to the MLB parent teams... Atlanta does it... so does Kansas City and they won World Series in recent years. Last edited by Eugene Church; 10-21-2022 at 01:19 PM. |

Then how would you redo those logos, perhaps, if you could, EC? Just curious, you see. CD out.

Create simple logos that look good on the team website and on their uniforms and caps. That's the type of logos, jerseys and caps I have used in all of my leagues. Not modern, razz-ma-tazz stuff for older-than-dirt dinosaur EC. I only use simple designs that look good in the game. The great gurus here on the forum have occasionally done modern logos for me, but I did not use them for long... just too fancy or a little too extreme on the mascot image for me and they did not show up well on OOTP games screens... bottom line -- it has to look good on the game screens and on the jerseys and caps. It was hard for me not to use a new logo... I didn't want to offend the designer... so I would use it part of the season and then go back to the traditional style... I would give it a try... the designer was nice enough to take his time and do it for me... so I should give it a try... I really didn't want to offend them... hope they understand that philosophy. |

Cardinals teams often do well in the system, as well, I think. And they usually have a lot of good players by the time they hit St. Louis, in most years, if they haven't already sent them off to other teams or cut them by then. It will still be at least somewhat hard to replace Pujols and Molina, at least, if not also Wainwright, I think, in 2023.
I don't think Knizer is the best answer for the Cardinals behind the plate, and replacing Pujols is not going to be easy either. IF and when Wainwright's done, it may be somewhat challenging as well for the Cardinals. I suspect he'll be retiring very soon, for sure. I expect the Cards will have to go shopping for a catcher, unless they have the next Mike Matheny or Darrell Porter or Ted Simmons or Tim McCarver, of a sort, already in their farm system, somehow. I'm not too sold on their entire outfield yet, either, and I really don't like the DH, you know, as well. The Cardinals also need better bats and better defense, and more speed, among other things they need. They ought not to carry pitchers that can't really pitch well, either, for more than five or six innings a start, or perform well for at least an inning-plus out of the bullpen, for that matter. CD out.
