Well, on the minus side, the M's lost using what was supposed to be their strength, their bullpen. On the plus side, we hammered the Astros #1 HOF pitcher, have our ace coming up in game 2 and can still take home field advantage.

Mets over Padres - lost, bitterly
Cardinals over Philthies - nah
Mariners over Astros - really not looking great
The Earthquake over the Philthies and Barves - maybe in Game 3...!

The Ho-Hum-dians have tied it up, which is good, really good...! I need at least three games on Sunday, so there'll be a day game for me.

The NL is two games away from having three 100-win teams and none of them reaching even the NLCS. Playoff system working as intended, I guess, if the intention was complete devaluation of the regular season and having the World Series be determined by dice rolls.

God, I love my Raccoons league in OOTP.

And Numbfred is forbidden from playing with it.

I always roll my eyes when I hear about someone talking about if their team is "good enough" to win the World Series when that has such little bearing on it. You need to be good enough to make the playoffs, but once you're there, like you said, it's like dice rolls.

Playoff teams by win totals and their current state:

111 - 1-2 in NLDS
106 - 2-0 in ALDS
101 - 1-2 in NLDS
101 - dead
99 - 1-1 in ALDS
93 - dead
92 - 1-1 in ALDS
92 - dead
90 - 0-2 in ALDS
89 - 2-1 in NLDS
87 - 2-1 in NLDS
86 - dead

If the Mariners were a little more resilient, there'd be a real chance that the SIX BEST TEAMS from the regular season would all be home by the LCSes.

Joke.

Absolute joke.

I use to be old school, 2-8 teams leagues, with just regular season league champions going to WS, but now l have come to like the playoff format. You have to have a good regular season AND have to perform, not choke, when the pressure is on during the playoffs. Just because a team is really hot during the first couple months of the season doesn’t mean they are the best team at season’s end.

I guess if you think the real champion should just be limited to the team with the best regular season record, then maybe one 28 team league, everyone plays every team 6 games, and the team with the best won/lost record after 168 games is consider the champion for the year with no post season. Actually this would be as fair as anything I suppose but it would be very boring IMO.

Another way to look at it. Arod during the regular season was a much better player than Jeter but when you factor in the post season, I would definitely say Jeter was the better player-IMO. IE you have to be good during the regular season and not choke during the post season (LAD).

The issue is that, in my opinion, a team with a much worse record winning in a postseason matchup is much more so luck than it is a case of mental strength. And there are way too many instances of teams with better records losing in the playoffs. How often does the team with the best regular-season record win the World Series? I think that it's a pretty low percentage. All of those teams had poor mental strength?

Wow, that inside-the-parker by Realmuto was exciting! The Phillies home crowd went nuts. The difference maker? Instead of loping and admiring, he ran hard out of the box.

Ronald Acuna jr. on defense always has such weird vibes. "It's alright. I'm only here to hit dingers and wear 20 pounds of fake bling"...

Seems like you want all the "bad" teams to win. Maybe if they win they're actually harder to beat?

Soto..don't you mean Juan Soto?

I was watching a Padres-Cards game when Soto just jogged after a ball he should have caught. It was awful.

Danny Mac (McLaughlin) went ..."ummm....yeah." And laughed. Unspoken was the bullet the Cardinals dodged by not going after him.

Root, root, root for the underdogs! And for the opponents of teams and fans that annoy you! (And throw in the Padres, for Mets fans sake.)

That would be ironic if you're a Yankees fan.

Ummm, bottom of the 13th inning in Seattle and no score. Suddenly, I am missing the free extra-inning runner ... so are certain TV executives ...
