Fictional league with real players

I am trying to set up a promotion/relegation league but I've always been turned off by fictional players so I thought using real players would help. I've checked the boxes for import historical rookies and random debut but I still get fictional players. I think I'm not connecting the historical database to the league. How do I do that?

So I recently started a fictional league using the wizard to have my base league be the historical majors starting in 1901. I’ve manually created sister leagues and added teams from the PCL, Texas league, Southern League, etc. The majors still draft real life players as normal, while the leagues I’ve created obviously use fictional players. When I plan to merge and create promotion/relegation in a decade or so, I’ll not create an association so as to keep the real life players in the top tier league, which makes way more sense.
