Historical Career League

I want to start a career league using 1949 MLB.

I don't mind fictional contracts.

When I use the "New Historical Game" I get everyone on single year contracts. When I go into league settings and tell it to regenerate fictional contracts nothing happens.

What do I need to do?
Or is it just impossible.

Uncheck the reserve era rules. 1949 was before free agency and the game just auto signs everyone to 1 year deals unless you release them.
