Pre-expansion question
Does anyone have experience with setting up a minor league team that will house and develop players for an expansion team that will begin operation the following year?
What I would like to do is create a minor league team (Class AAA) that would operate independently for one year prior to the league expanding. It would have the ability to sign free agents only who would stock the team roster during the one year prior to the league expansion. I would also like to able to act as manager and general manager of this independent minor league team as well, with the ability to sign players for one or more years.
This minor league team would then either become a holding area for players pre-expansion and after expansion, the new expansion team could stock its roster or the roster of one the affiliated minor league teams created with the expansion team using players from the independent minor league team, which would then be folded.
Of course, the players on the independent minor league team would be eligible for purchase and the expansion draft, but some would be left over to be transfered to the new expansion team.
Any thoughts on how to do this?
