Walkers news: April 14 -- Evansville 9, St. Louis 3
Record: 5-8, 5th, 6 GB Des Moines
Evansville jumped on St. Louis starting pitcher Allan Almon for five first-inning runs and the Bosses never looked back in a 9-3 win at Yankee Stadium (1988). The victory was the third of the four-game series for Evansville. Shenouda Sokoine opened the bottom of the first with a triple off Allmon and scored on a Tadiyuki Yamaguchi single. Home runs provided the rest of the damage as Sam Muszynski and Tom Brooks both cranked two-run jobs to help make it 5-0. Muszynski picked up another RBI in the second, driving in a run with a single off Allmon to make it 6-0. A two-run homer from Jeff Waldron off Darren Xu in the bottom of the fourth made it 8-0. It reached 9-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Myles Faust connecting for a run-scoring double off Chris Willett. All three of the River Walkers' runs came in the top of the eighth. Bosses starting pitcher Jeremy Kriech (1-1) went six scoreless innings. He struck out four and walked one. After that, Rich Haas, Fernando Bustamante and Michael Bowen all pitched an inning apiece to close out the game. |

Walkers news: April 15 -- Allmon and Attaway to Memphis, Farias and Thiel called up
With a 5-8 start to their season, the St. Louis River Walkers have decided to take a pair of roster moves regarding their pitching staff.
Left-handed starting pitcher Allan Allmon and right-handed reliever Adam Attaway Jr. have both been sent to AAA Memphis while right-handed starting pitcher Juan Farias and right-handed reliever Nick Thiel have been called up from the Redbirds. Allmon, 25, made three starts going 0-3 with a 12.00 ERA. He allowed 16 earned runs in just 12 innings. Attaway Jr., 25, pitched in just two games while with the Walkers. He worked a total of four innings allowing seven hits, nine earned runs and a 20.25 ERA. Farias, 28, spent the entire 2040 season in the St. Louis rotation, going 5-11 with a 3.77 ERA in 26 starts but was demoted to AAA Memphis to start the season after a rough spring training. The righty made one start for the Redbirds, and picked up a win while allowing two runs while pitching a complete game. Thiel, 34, was signed by the Walkers during the offseason after spending the 2040 season pitching in the minors for Chicago. The right-hander appeared in one game for the Walkers, pitching a scoreless inning. For his career, Thiel has pitched in 629 games going 44-35 with 15 saves. He has a career ERA of 4.17. |

Walkers news: April 15 -- St. Louis 4, Los Angeles 3
Record: 6-8, 4th/(Tied/w. Quad City), 5.5 GB Des Moines
Down 3-2, St. Louis scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat Los Angeles 4-3 at Busch Stadium (2006). Pinch-hitter Nick Shaw drew a walk from Turtles closer Jose Patricio to open the bottom of the ninth. He was eliminated when Ryan Wibbenmeyer hit into a force play. But Mark Herman kept things going with a double, putting runners at second and third. Rookie Carlos Martines was given an intentional walk to load the bases. Patricio struck out Josh Hurley for the second out. Mark Waterson, however, drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch to tie the game. Joe Bien untied it doubling to right field on a 1-2 pitch to score Herman with the winning run. Down 1-0, L.A. had taken control with three runs in the top of the fifth off River Walkers starter Mike Harney. Amari Simpson drove in the first two runs with a homer. Luis Jimenez and Jordan Lawlar later connected on back-to-back two-out doubles to make it 3-1. Harney went six innings, allowing three runs on four hits. He struck out four and walked two. Nick Thiel, making his first appearance for St. Louis, worked the seventh and got the first two outs of the eighth. Wakers news: April 16 -- Los Angeles 5, St. Louis 1
Record: 6-9, 5th/(Tied/w. Quad City), 5.5 GB Des Moines
T.J. Leitch staked Los Angeles to a 3-0 lead with a homer in the top of the second and the Turtles rode that to a 5-1 win over St. Louis at Busch Stadium (2006). Jordan Lawlar got things rolling by drawing a lead-off walk from River Walkers starting pitcher Billy Ables to begin the third. Ables retired the next two and it should have been three but strike three eluded catcher Savion McMullan and Rick Koenig reached safely. Leitch made St. Louis pay belting a 1-0 pitch 387 feet over the right-field wall for a 3-0 Turtles lead. After the Walkers pulled to within 3-1 with a run in the bottom of the sixth, L.A. answered with a pair in the top of the seventh. Josh Ames plated them both with a two-out double off Kyle Smarr. Turtles starting pitcher Lorenzo Mascorro (1-2) allowed one run on four hits over five innings. He struck out three and walked the same. Jason Stone worked a scoreless sixth for L.A. The seventh and eighth were silent as well, Ben Aughenbaugh working around a pair of hits. The ninth belonged to Orlando Soto in a non-save situation. |

Walkers news: April 17 -- Los Angeles 3, St. Louis 2
Record: 6-10, 5th/(Tied/w. Quad City), 5.5 GB Des Moines
Trailing 1-0, Los Angeles got to St. Louis starting pitcher Ming Xiang for three runs in the top of the sixth inning and that was enough to carry the Turtles to a 3-2 win at Busch Stadium (2006). The victory was the second of the three-game series for L.A. Pitcher Travis Mayr got things rolling for the Turtles when he led off the top of the sixth with a single off Xiang. Jordan Lawlar followed with another single, putting runners at second and third. After a strike out, David Johnson tied the game with a double. With Josh Ames at the plate, two pitches later, the Turtles were in front as Xiang uncorked a wild pitch allowing Lawlar to score. When Ames swung his bat, he singled to score Johnson and make it 3-1. Ryan Wibbenmeyer drove in a St. Louis run in the bottom of the sixth with a single off Mayer as the Walkers pulled to within 3-2. That, however, was the end of the scoring. Mayr (1-1) went 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out five and walked three. Ben Aughenbaugh got the final out of the sixth for L.A. After that, it was Sam Gibb for two scoreless innings and Jose Patricio for one. Patricio earned his second save. Last edited by rink23; 09-15-2022 at 03:19 AM. |

Record: 7-10, 4th/(Tied/w. Louisville), 6 GB Des Moines
Down 1-0, Savion McMullan connected on a two-run single in the top of the ninth inning to help lift St. Louis to a 2-1 win over Madison at Comiskey Park (1969). Nick Shaw led off the inning with a single off Muskies relief pitcher Mauricio Moreno. Joe Bien pinch-ran for Shaw. Jordan Grullon followed with a single. A walk to Mike Casebolt then loaded the bases. Savion McMullan connected for a single, scoring both Bein and Grullon. Madison's lone run came in similar fashion in the bottom of the first, as it put its first four batters on base against River Walkers starting pitcher Kevin Hrdlicka. However, it resulted in just one run as Kevin Couture Jr. drove in Andy Granado with a bases-loaded single. Hrdlicka settled down after that going six innings, allowing the one run on three hits. He struck out four and walked one. Kyle Smarr, Curt Donaldson and Tom Floria all pitched scoreless innings of relief for the Walkers. Floria posted his second save. Record: 7-12, 5th, 8 GB Des Moines
St. Louis hit four home runs over the first three innings to build a 6-2 lead, but that was not enough as Madison rallied for a 9-6 win at Comiskey Park (1969). The victory was the Muskies second of the three-game series. Ryan Wibbenmeyer hit a first-inning solo homer off Madison starting pitcher Chris Brakefield and two batter later rookie Carlos Martines added a two-run blast two batters as St. Louis went ahead 3-0. Joe Bien led off the third with his first home run since joining St. Louis in the offseason -- it came off Frank Morales -- it gave the Walkers a 6-2 lead. But Madison came roaring back. First, it was a four-run bottom of the fourth. It began when St. Louis starter Mike Harney walked the bases loaded to begin the inning. A wild pitch scored Tyler Mosley with the first run. Hector Hildalgo plated the second with a fly ball to left. Andy Granado made it 6-5 with a two-out double. Dan Hillard then added another double as the Muskies tied it 6-6. Former St. Louis pitcher Maximilliano Minelli threw five shutout innings and the River Walkers didn't score until the ninth, as Chicago took the opening game of a doubleheader 6-1 at Busch Stadium (2006). Minelli (2-2), who St. Louis traded to Chicago in the 2039, allowed five hits -- three singles, one double and one triple -- during his time on the mound. He struck out seven and didn't walk a batter. Jorge Ariza pitched a scoreless sixth for the G-Men. While another former Walker, Xavier Wigfall, followed that with two more scoreless innings. Willie Acheson handled the ninth and gave up an RBI single to pinch-hitter Josh Hurley, but by that time Chicago led 6-0. The G-Men scored in four consecutive innings, beginning in the third when Dave Hutchison opened the scoring with a two-out RBI single off Xiang. In the fourth, another former St. Louis player, Chris Gibbs, did some damage with an RBI single. Ryan West followed with a double which plated a run, making it 3-0. Val Moreno doubled off Xiang with one out in the fifth. He scored on a throwing error by Xiang on a ball hit by Ramiro Hernandez. It was one of three error by the Walkers in the game. Walkers news: April 25 -- Indianapolis 3, St. Louis 2
Record: 8-15, 6th, 9 GB Des Moines
Tied 2-2, Noah Smith connected on an RBI double off St. Louis reliever Antonio Cruiz with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to score Matt Beagle to help Indianapolis to a 3-2 win over the River Walkers at Busch Stadium (2006). Beagle had led off the inning with a single off reliver Curt Donaldson. Donaldson retired the next batter before a 10-minute rain delay hit. Cruiz replaced Donaldson after the delay. He got Danny Ocampo to fly out for the second out. But Smith lined a 3-2 pitch into the gap in left center and Beagle came around to score the tie-breaking run. The Walkers' Manuel Coke hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first off Racers starting pitcher Jason Mucci to give his team an early 2-0 lead. Indy tied it with runs in the top of the second -- Jose Maldonaldo tripled off St. Louis starter Juan Farias and scored on a Dan Huff single -- and seventh -- Alex Horta led off with a single off Farias. He stole second and scored on a two-out single by pinch-hitter Vince Sessions off reliever Nick Thiel -- setting the Racers to win it late. Mucci went six innings, allowing one run on two hits. He struck out five and walked two. After that, it was an inning apiece from David Hinojasa, Marshall Hornby and Ramiro Canales to close out the Walkers. Hornby (2-1) earned the win.
