Question about training players at new positions

To clarify - players only train up at a position if you use them in the main PT league mode?

My Jody Reed has played 1000's of games in tourneys at this point and he's still a 72/75 at 2nd base - that gives me the answer - so more to the point, why is this the case? How am I supposed to ever train up an iron/bronze/silver/gold player while I'm in Diamond or Perfect league? It just doesn't make any logical sense.

I'd like to train up Hank Leiber at RF right now - but I can only do that if I can train up Hank Lieber in Iron tourneys. Using him at RF on my main team would clearly be problematic.

Maybe there is some other way of training up players fielding that I am unaware of, and if so, please correct me!

Otherwise, it seems like it'd be an easy change to make on your end, OOTP - please turn training to ON for tourney modes - or at least can I get a reasonable explanation. Thanks.

There is no training in tournaments. All players play with their default ratings, even so.eone who was trained in the main league play somewhere else. It was a decision made long ago to keep the tournaments separate.
