Player vs. Team Strategy

Can anyone explain the correlation between these two screens?

If the player's mode is Adjust to Team Strategy Settings, then why are his settings not the same as the Team Strategy Settings?

And the phrasing 'Lock to Team' doesn't make much sense. The description says it gives you full control over strategy settings. This appear to mean the individual player settings, but why call it Lock to Team then?

Yea..I am not a fan of how this was implemented….especially the “lock to team. Basically if you leave it at “ adjust to team strategy” …then both will be considered. So for example if your steam strategy for stealing frequency is a 6, and you have an individual player set at a 4….then it will come out as a 5 in the wash. If you “override team strategy settings, the AI will completely dismiss the team settings and only use the individual players layer settings.

So where does the initial player settings come from? I would think that if it's locked at Adjust to Team Strategy that's what it should show. How do you make your players just use the team strategy?

You would have to set the player strategy to match the team strategy I think…not sure, but it seems logical

I agree with your assessment. My opinion is that any time the user doesn't check the Lock to Team button the game should use the overall team strategy (and maybe it is; I don't know from these screens). After all, if you check Lock to Team you can set the settings however you like and still tell it to Adjust to Team Strategy, giving the results you gave in your first post.

I'd like clarification on what the sentence 'Team Coaching Staff is in control of strategy settings.' What does that mean? How are they in control? Is that another unimplemented, undocumented, and unexplained facet of the coaching system?

You have my sympathy...seriously. This is a great example of a lot of the shortcomings (and some design decisions) within OOTP. One of my biggest complaints is also the lack of clarification regarding many of the game's concepts. IMO this was really just poorly implemented. There is a thread (and chat with a developer) somewhere in the past I think. Could be in the BETA forum though.

EDIT: I did find it, and it was indeed in the BETA forum, so I'm afraid I cannot link it here.

Matt Arnold made a post back in 2021 called A developer's Guid to Strategy

And in there under Player Strategy is a description of how "Adjust" vs "Over ride" works....here it is but I'd recomend the whole post as a worthwhile read.

"MODE
There are 2 main modes for player strategy settings: Adjust to team strategy settings, and Override team strategy settings. These do not apply to any settings which do not have a team option as listed above)
Adjust to team strategy settings: If this option is selected, then the player strategy (in general) will ADD to the team setting. So if the player strategy is set all the way to the max, but the team setting is all the way to the min, then adjusting to team strategy will "cancel out" and the player will be treated as if their setting is in the middle. Generally, the combined settings cannot surpass the limits of any one slider.
Override team strategy settings: In this case, the player setting will completely override the team setting, regardless of score and inning. So if this is selected, you may max out a single player's steal slider, for example, while setting the team slider to the min, and the player will attempt to steal frequently. However note that this applies to ALL settings. In some cases, this will be the only way to maximize an individual setting (in the case listed, if the team slider is at a min, then using "Adjust" will not be able to push a player's individual setting past the mid-point).
