Exclamation New OOTP 23 public beta patch (version 23.6.78) available!

Important: This patch is only for OOTP 23 versions which were purchased directly from us or resellers who use our version. It is also available via the Steam client with the public password below.
It is NOT compatible with the Mac OSX AppStore or Epic version!

Hi everybody!

The next patch is ready to launch soon, so here is a new public beta, version 23.6.78.

Use this at your own risk! Please back up important league files before loading them in this beta. This patch is compatible with the previous patch for online leagues - exports will work between versions, however both clients and the commish need to update to benefit from the online league fixes.

Changelist (23.6.78):
Updated prospect pool in new standard game (need to start new game to see changes)
Added ability to re-arrange bookmarks
Added ability to edit fireworks emitters in park page (note: Once a park has been saved on the update, it will not be able to be loaded on previous versions of the game)
Added camera views to default major and default minor parks
Improved New Game creation logo setup
Adjusted when + and - buttons shift on player contract page (ie. +10M button now appears when salary >= 25M, not >= 10M)
Adjusted player evaluation in low-strikeout eras (recalc modifiers recommended)
Adjusted AI depth chart and lineup decisions
Adjusted prospect creation (slightly more variation in batting profiles)
Adjusted default pitch mix for newly created players
Adjusted AI eval of SP
Adjusted impact of high ticket prices on attendance
Updated default draft date.
Fixed some retired players staying around with historical transactions enabled
Fixed some issues with sortable team stats for WAR, FIP, etc… showing 0
Fixed crash when draft lottery set with not enough slots
In Challenge mode, automatically adjust draft odds if out of range (all slots must have one ball, balls cannot significantly increase for later spots)
Fixed Draft Leagues not pulling players from Feeder Leagues
Fixed some checks and error messages when trying to waive/DFA injured players
If manually importing current draft results, will search data/stats/draft_list_2022.csv first, and if no file exists, will download live start copy to use
Live Start: If not updating teams, draft will be moved to after live start date
Fixed some issues in handling historical transactions
Fixed some historical minor league stats being tagged to MLB teams
Fixed some doubleheader scheduling times
Fixed some issues reimporting the Names DB
Fixed upper Calendar script spacing
Fixed financials for non-promoted teams when running manual promotion/relegation
Fixed teams changing owners shortly after a previous owner change
Online Leagues: Include Posted Players in pending offers
Online Leagues: Fixed rule 5 import issues when using Check Team Imports to download all imports
PT: Fixed 2021 real stats
PT: Separated Tournament Rankings page by type
PT: Fixed card appearing when changing sell order on card

How to access the beta on Steam:
  • Quit OOTP 23 if it's running.
  • Open Steam client -> Library
  • Right click on Out of the Park Baseball 23
  • Click on "Properties" at the bottom of the menu
  • Click on the beta tab. Here, enter the following code / password: ootp23betapt
  • Click on "Check code"
  • Open the beta pull-down and select "publicbeta".
  • Close the Steam client (Steam menu -> Exit)
  • Open the client again. It should then download the beta build.
Update Info for our webstore customers: To apply the update, simply download the setup file and install it over your current installation. There is no need to uninstall or unlicense your current copy! However, you should quit the game before installing it, of course. Updates always contain all the changes from previous updates. Saved games are compatible between different versions.

Download link for PC Beta (Fastspring Webstore Version):
Main server: PC Installer

Here's a PC installer (Fastspring) that installs into a single folder, which is useful for external HDs for example. Or for creating a second test install of the game, so you can try the patch out without the risk of messing up your main install of the game if something is wrong in the patch:
PC Single Folder Installer

Download link for Mac (FastSpring):
Main Server: Mac OSX Installer

Please post here if you have any issues or if you run into major bugs. Thanks!

Cheers,
Markus & the entire OOTP Team

Does this mean I can set the 2022 draft any day before the actual draft and can import the correct draft results?

Awesome!

Thanks for the update!

I wanted to check on the color_settings.csv feature that I've been asking about for a few months.

It looks like in this version it still doesn't work as described in the readme.txt.

I admit it might be user error, but the troubleshooting advice I've received in previous posts hasn't solved the problem.

I'd really like to make this feature work, so I wanted to see if someone who has made it work can talk me on to the solution, otherwise, I want to point out to the development team that the feature is still broken.

Thanks!

I don’t see that this patch fixes the pregame “team leaders” tab, which currently only show the human manager’s team leaders.

Unsure about the specifics of the fix, but the big issue with minor league LA Angels stats showing up as MLB still exists.

To reproduce:

) Start a 1962 historical season, import previous minor-league seasons

2) Go the LA Angels and find 1B Steve Bilko. You'll see his pre-1961 seasons with the Angels are still listed as MLB seasons.

This issue isn't restricted to Bilko, obviously, as many players were on those LA Angels teams. His is the most egregious because of the monster stats he racked up in the minor leagues which really screws with the various historical rankings in the game.

Where is this showing up? I've seen a couple people mention but haven't ever seen it for myself

There are a couple posts for this, but I think this is the main one.

“Adjusted impact of high ticket prices on attendance”. What does this even mean? This is the kind of things that are so vague and the user has no idea what’s going on.

This is also why the manual needs a total re-write, and the ambiguity just has to be cut out. People want to know what is going on. I’m not saying the developers need to divulge how the sim actually works to the degree the game could be “cheesed”…but I do think users need to know how certain game concepts operate.

I assume it makes ticket pricing more elastic. This seems in direct response to the concerns you raised, PSU.

Also keep in mind that the term "more elastic" is a desperate call back to my sophomore year microecon class that I hope I got correct...

I assumed it was a result of my prior query...but when he is saying this, does it mean that attendance will go down as a result of ticket prices being too high? If so, why not just state that? They way it is written and not explained leaves the user in a fog, and not sure what is going on. It could mean anything because of how general and ambiguous it is.

Player Velo is still dramatically reduced compared to modern major leagues. The issue is due to modifications of player velo growth rates that have not be accounted for by the player creation algorithm. Players now have extremely warped velo at the final result depending on what age they were generated. For international players no player in any sim I have done has reached above 97 MPH of velo. This bug was introduced in one of the last patches and has not been fixed.

For the below table DOM is all international players. USA is all draft players but the draft was restricted to college only. JPN is all international free agency generated players (the adult not 15 year olds). I simulated 25 years into the future and exported the current velos of all players.

HTML Code:
velo	DOM	JPN	USA	Grand Total
75 0
80 0
83 2	2
84 0
85	54 22	76
86	186 133	319
87	343 201	544
88	482	2	321	805
89	466	4	513	983
90	444	2	428	875
91	308	1	410	719
92	244	7	528	779
93	112	4	302	418
94	61	3	175	239
95	14	3	122	139
96	3	2	43	48
97 1	23	24
98 8	8
99 6	6
100 0
Total	2717	29	3237	5984
This is at all default settings other then the draft having been modified to be all college instead of highschool and college. Even with the dramatic increase in player age at generation time this is extremely far off from modern major leagues in totals. It generates under half the number of players throwing 95+. This causes serious issues with reliever vs starter tallent as velo isn't equivalent for both groups. Also it creates a large tallent rift between players generated at 15 vs 20.

Also currently the game defaults to normal as the default pitcher stamina. That would be fine except all historical groups are not based around modern day being normal. (I am fairly certain it's supposed to be low or very low). I am not sure if this change was intentional or a bug there is no comment that it was intended. Based on the current historical modifiers it should be very low but that seems to create far too few innings pitched. Not sure if that is intended or not.

Seems pretty obvious... attendance isn't going to go up with higher ticket prices, therefore the impact of higher ticket prices would be attendance going down. And of course there's going to be ambiguity in the formula and exact thresholds aren't going to be spelled out.

The game is crashing to desktop when I try to reimport the names database with the names mod. Did you test the names database functionality?

EDIT: nothing to do with the names mod, it also crashes when I try to reimport the names database without modding anything.

98 8	8
99 6	6
100 0
Total	2717	29	3237	5984
This is a comparison to 2022 with similar settings, note the draft was for 35 rounds by default not 30 rounds default like 2023.

HTML Code:
velo	DOM	JPN	USA	Grand Total
75 0
80 1	1
83	13 1	14
84	19 1	20
85	67 12	79

90	177	1	189	367
91	225	2	235	462
92	246	2	313	561
93	240	1	345	587
94	251	5	325	581
95	219	4	339	563
96	168	7	338	514
97	142	4	267	414
98	89	1	192	282
99	122 159	281
100 10	10
total	2529	27	3063	5623
This generated too many players throwing above 95 mph but is easier to correct because you can just move stuff down unlike the current build where you cannot correct the issue as it is caused by age of generation.

To elaborate on the crash report, the crash to desktop occurs if you click "yes" when it asks if you want to clear the names database. If you click "no", it does not crash, but also does not properly import the modded names and ethnicities.

I'm very disappointed here, I had been eagerly waiting for this patch which it had been claimed would finally solve the names database issue. Hopefully it's just some minor oversight that can be easily corrected.

I agree, but at least the nature of the change should be articulated.
