Haven't you ever got so pissed at a player in a game that you felt like trading him?

Everybody has bad days, although I'll put a player on the block after too many bad days. MLB doesn't allow roster changes while the game is in progress. I do recall a story of players being traded between games in a double header -- they played the first game for one team, then got new unis and played the second for the opposing team.

I've done that too. The damn C in an extremely important 4 game series was whiffing left and right. It seemed no matter where I put him in the order he would be the guy getting runners in scoring position with 2 outs and whiffing away.
He did it so many times I moved his 31 year old veteran ass down to AAA. I would of cut him if he wasn't signed for 3 more years. Hmmmmm, trading block time?

I've done that with the demotion to the minors as well. Or I just bench the guy indefinetly.
I wonder if the players know they've been put on the trading block in OOTP ? And if they do know, does it effect their performance ? I've only stuck one of my starters on the trading block, and he really stunk up the joint during the stint on the trading block. I wonder if that was just coincedence.

marioh,
I've seen the opposite, so it must be coincedence. I put Lee Stevens on the trading block and he has been hitting the sheet out of the ball! Todd |

They know, sometimes they send you an email saying they don't want to be traded... or one saying get me the hell out of here...

I benched Charles Johnson due to him striking out 30 times in 80 at bats and with a .076 batting avg. Then I put him on the trading block and he sent me a message asking me to please take him off the trading block and how much he likes playing for me. I felt bad and took him off! I tried trading him for some young prospect catcher, but no one will take him.

Good, I'm happy to hear that they do know when they're put on the trading block.
Makes them realize they better shape up or else they'll be getting shipped out.

that trade occurred early in the 1900's. i dont know exactly when. i read about it in some baseball book about weird baseball stories. i know that theplayers were traded as stated above, and then switched uniforms to play the second half of the game. weird, very weird.
ever hear about the guy that played all nine positions in ONE game? or that old silly rule that lasted i think for one year where a one bouncer in the infield was an automatic out. or how about the time when bases on balls were counted as hits in a batting average. baseball sure has changed alot. |

[quote] or that old silly rule that lasted i think for one year where a one bouncer in the infield was an automatic out.

This "silly rule" was in effect roughly the first thirty years after the rules were first codified (and it was a one-bouncer *anywhere*; fouls could be caught on the first bounce for an out even after the rule was changed for fair balls). Try fielding without a glove and you won't think it's so silly. |

In one of the "strange but true" baseball stories books I read as a kid (back before computers), there was a guy who got both the win and the loss in a game. He was on the mound when a game got called for darkness There were men on base at the time. The game was resumed several months later and, in the interim, he was traded to the opposing team. When the game was resumed, he came in to pitch, some of the runners on base scored. The guy ended up getting the loss for his old team and the win for his new team.
Now, this may be urban legend, and I have no idea of the name of the pitcher involved, however if someone can fill in the details, I'd be interested. Joshuaaaaaa

Joel Youngblood played for both the Mets and the Expos in the same day, but not in a double header.
I believe he played for the Mets in a day game, the Expos in a night game. Hard to remember, it was a while ago. |

The 1979 the Mets traded for Jose Cardenal in between games of a doubleheader. Cardenal dressed for the Mets in the 2nd game but didn't actually get into the game. Funny thing is, Cardenal is a cousin on one of the guys you also referred to in your post who played all 9 positions in one major league game, Bert Camapaneris! Max Flack and Cliff Heathcote played for both teams in a doubleheader, having been traded by the Cubs and Cardinals between games in 1922. Here's a link: Unusual Trade The Tigers traded reliever Todd Jones between games of a doubleheader last season but not to the team the Tigers were playing the doubleheader against.
