Challenge Mode

I like challenge mode, but it's become so predictable. All your best players end up being 3 stars, playoffs are just dice roles. It's annoying because you put in so much time and your team always loses, and your best players ALWAYS get hurt. It just seems like the AI f's you.

The AI isn't screwing with you, it's probably just bad luck or you having unrealistic expectations. Learn to enjoy the ups and downs because, I promise you, you'll have double the fun than if you were to win all the time.

Also, challenge mode doesn't make the game more difficult, it only prevents you from changing some of the standard settings.

Never play challenge mode, all it does is lock some editing settings. If things break or just drift outside of what you want, you can't fix it, you are just stuck.

Appreciate your replies

I really appreciate your replies. I've played since ootp16, I don't really post on this forum though. I love the game overall, so I don't want to sound like a complainer, even though I'm complaining. Still wish this game was a cross between The Show for graphics and gameplay with the history and advanced simulation of ootp. Really i'm just griping, and i'm open to advice.

I like the challenge mode, because i'm always tempted in commissioner mode to edit certain attributes like fielding ability, injury, leadership, and speed. Also, pitching is a wreck in challenge mode, everyone tears their rotator or ucl, which happens in real life to some, but it happens every time when you think you have the next ace. It's just wait and see for them to get hurt and become awful.

I like the game overall, but there are some guys, even when you play a historic team, that become terrible, and it ruins the experience. I do a lot of what ifs, like if Kevin Mitchell, Brett Butler, Matt Williams, and Will Clark stayed with the Giants, they always end up terrible.

Man, do I get that. I love What IFs... and sadly it's not quite as possible with Challenge Mode. My favorite is seeing how Teams would have done if Free Agency hadn't occurred, or having teams keep everyone they drafted without player movement.

My temptation to edit ratings is always mitigated by my stronger desire to see the what if's play out per the game engine. This is only possible when recalcing player ratings each season which is not possible in Challenge Mode. It sounds like you should give a non challenge mode a shot for a couple seasons using Recalc instead of the Talent Development Engine... it's an entirely different game / experience in my opinion.

This is the first version I've really tried to get into Challenge Mode to see if I could enhance one of my Perfect Teams with some bonus packs. I basically dislike playing the game with real-life players as I enjoy the unknowns of fictional players; no preconceived idea of how they'll do based on real-life stats. I went back to play the Mariners from their inaugural season to see how I might do, but with no access to the online Challenge Mode profile to see the achievements or gain anything for PT, I'm finding it kind of useless to keep playing.

Did you get any packs playing Challenge Mode? I played for a bit when 23 came out to test it but never received any packs from it. Had assumed it had been removed as a feature at the time.

No, never received any pack. I posted elsewhere about not being able to sign into my profile online for Challenge Mode and the reply I got was that it wasn't functional yet.

Challenge Mode Profile hasn't done anything useful since OOTP 21 so I would not hold my breath. Will add packs to achievements, signatures, and leaderboards and hope they make a return in version 24

I like Challenge Mode, and enjoy being able to see my stats and achievements via the online profile. I played the beta, and held off starting a new game on release for when the online profile was active. Feels like I'm in a small minority, because the online profile is still "coming soon" and I've kinda lost interest in playing now.
