At the end of the day, everyone here has free will. If you don’t like the direction that OOTP is going, then don’t purchase any future versions of the game. That’s how you send a message.

Simple as that.

Not sure why you feel belittling someone is fun or funny... however the overuse of emojis tells me all i need to know
Maybe take a minute and comment to those belittling Markus for making decisions that affects his paycheck and not theirs?

And yes, you're right about everyone being entitled to an opinion. With that in mind.. so am I.

The game still in production after 18 years of "doom and gloom" posts, that is a fact. Those that continually say "this is the end" are proven wrong time and time again. Common sense and looking at the factual history doesn't sink in to some. That is not my fault. Though in today's world conspiracy and angst it is the norm, I'm sad to say.

If overuse of emojis (who decides that? you?) tells you all you need to know, well.. That says a lot about you, doesn't it.

I’m not saying this is the end…just a major plateau.

That’s your opinion. The majority of us think otherwise.

Yes, just as once so many have moved on the majority of those still in the cave think the shadows on the wall are the genuine article. Do not take as validation sharing in a consensus borne from being left behind. Even among the other public venues where discourse about the game continues, the prevailing wisdom of this board- in which you seem to take such assurance- enjoys no similar ascendency. In any event, any judgement between claims based on their relative prevalence confuses popularity with merit.

As stated many times, game still comes out yearly, with a new feature list, that doesn't look different than pre com2us. Until that changes exactly what are you complaining about?

First there is nothing wrong with profit. Would you turn down your next raise or way to increase your income because I didn't like the way your were making it happen? Yeah, I didn't think so. Your only recourse is to not buy the game instead of trying to tell a man how he should make his living.

The "profit maximizing" aka microtransactions have not touched OOTP proper just as Markus said they wouldn't. OOTP doesn't sell any add-ons, you get the complete game when you buy it. So, not sure why these make any difference at all to someone that only plays OOTP proper? Or why one begrudges Markus generating income from it when it has no bearing on OOTP?

Lack of candor? Markus opened a thread to specifically announce and discuss the sale. Including the aforementioned microtransactions.

When the sky does finally fall you will be right. Until then you are only telling us how you will eventually be right. Look at me!!

The lack of dissonance on this forum is staggering. People will resort to the most tortured logic  to speculate on the demise of OOTP. A clock is right twice a day. These guys haven't been right in 18 years.

With Markus being the leader and game creator it is possible, when he decides to retire, OOTP could end. It is also just as likely(?) that Matt would simply step up as team leader and the game goes on. If the game goes on for another 20 yrs under come2us, Markus retires, and OOTP comes to an end? Well all of the doomsayers can point to a 20 something year old thread crowing about how they were right all along.
In case anyone else is- out of confusion, defensiveness, or profound lack of awareness as to their intellectual limits- compelled to embroider my words with meanings not originally present, I will be explicit about what should be obvious. Characterizing OOTPD as being profit-maximizing is not pejorative , but simply tautological when discussing any company in a market economy. Saying they have pursued that end by taking the game in a different direction than I would have preferred is not to deny their right to make that choice. Nor is any financial reward they reap from taking that course target for resentment or claims of illegitimacy on my part. Finally, acknowledging the consequences of certain company decisions on the product they offer does not signal that I have any idea what the near- or long-term prospects are for either the game or company; in any event, I am sure that they know their market- current and potential- far better than I.

As to the stylistic flourishes and devices employed in the quote above, I will do the author the small mercy of forgoing comment so as to spare them and him unnecessary scrutiny.

To this day the Madden product is a far worse product (for franchise/GM players) than the PS2 era Madden 06/07... I do not want this to happen to the best baseball sim on the market.

But it seems to me like 23 continues to chase the perfect team money to the detriment of what this game has always been about and that makes me both nervous and sad after seeing what Madden has become (not that EA cares as it rakes in money which makes me think OOTPD wont care either).

In any event, I am voting with my wallet and still playing 22 after refunding 23 as it seemed to be a far less step forward in the franchise than in years past. This will be the FIRST version I have not purchased annually since 2004.

Perhaps I am wrong here and I am not trying to speak as factual but I am getting a sour vibe from 23... am I alone here?

You have the right to br worried as I am. When a larger comany such as Com2US swallows up a privately owned smaller company all the promises made by larger company to private company about integrity of game, the vision of game, the direction of the game, the care and love of the gam, your customers you brought up as baby OOTP all that will eventually fade into the sunset. I'm afraid COM2US will take OOTP & PT into a versions like the games they have now. It was probably a good short-term move for OOTP at first but when they no longer have any control and are being told what the large comoany wants them to do..OOTP will slide of in sunset with still unexplored possibilities left.

What? lol

I’ve been on these boards since 2004, for over 18 years. I’ve seen the doom and gloom predictions for years now. Especially when OOTP moved to the new engine back in 2006 (?). The prophets of doom and gloom come and go.

Markus has stated repeatedly, his commitment to OOTP and making it the best sports sims around bar none. Until he says otherwise, not stressing it.

It’s all good yo.

I trust in Markus. Still, not sure I'm going to buy 24. Not because of anything Markus/co has done, but... just in general, the game seems extremely polished at this point. Extremely so.

One of the most intelligent comments I have seen on these boards in years.
Might want to spread that thought around.

Absolutely agreed on #1. (Except, well, if I'm being honest, and I know it isn't a currently fashionable thing to admit, but I really loved early/earlier U2, especially The Unforgettable Fire.)

Years ago, my daughter got hooked on one of their micro-transaction games called, “Derby Days”… I mean hooked, hooked - which is mostly my fault for letting her play on the iPad. It was scary when my bank called to confirm a ~$300 gem (or maybe it was carrots?) purchase she attempted (I was refunded), that’s for sure. And, I realize that this reply, especially after I trashed the Doors, likely comes off as flippant. That’s not my intent - these companies, and these mind-numbing, soul crushing, micro-transaction farming/horse breeding/etc games are a pox on all our houses.

The drum/vocal opening to ‘The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)’ still starts to play every time I connect my iPhone to the car.. causing me to fumble for my phone to open the Spotify app and queue up one of my commute mega mixes before my ears start bleeding…
