Player ratings changed overnight
I purchased Ootp23 thru the website and the player ratings of some players changed overnight without me doing anything to the file and not downloading a new patch. How is this possible?

Did your scouting view revert to OSA rather than you scout? I have seen that occur occassionally.

This is happening to me as well. Every few days all my players' ratings change by 2-3 points. I have the "random talent change" setting at 35 (aka very low). Is this a bug?

I was hoping for a answer to this before I wrote since the last time I posted a "this happened to me, too" I was accused of confirmation bias instead of receiving a possible solution, but, well, this happened to me, too. Among others, Richie Ashburn, the fastest player in baseball in 1951 (as per Bill James speed scores) went from a 10 (1-10 scale) to a 6 even though he was 100% rested. I thought I solved this by running autocalc a few times prior to the season start, but it didn't correct this after all. All the settings I try to use are to have players use their real stats for that 1 season (player development off, etc.) so I'm sure I missed something. Thanks.

Quote:
1) At what point did this occur? Preseason, mid season, start of off season, etc? 2) Scouting On or Off? If on is "Include Stats in Scouting Report" checked and what is the scouting frequency set to (Rare, Normal, or Infrequent)? 3) Are stadiums set to the default? Particularly interested in stadiums being changed by either import or changing ballpark factors. 4) Stats & AI settings... - Is Lock League Totals unchecked? - Is "Automatically Adjust League Total Modifiers" checked? 5) Any other customization options that would change league total stats such as having expanded the league such that there are more or less teams than existed in 1951? Any teams relocate such that they are now in new cities? For the other folks, stuff I listed above will help if you aren't uploading league files or posting on the Bugs page. Also, if you are sharing the point swings you are seeing let us know what scale you are seeing. 3 points on a 1-10 scale is a huge swing... on a 1-100 scale it might be normal. Edit: I have played multiple playthroughs of historical recalc based on single season recalc in OOTP 23. I have seen historical oddities (Ed Lopat being terrible in 1952, etc), but I have never noticed extreme mid season swings and I keep talent Change Randomness checked (50 in current game). Not doubting you are seeing it, but curious what you may be doing that is resulting in this issue that I may not be doing/

If you're doing 1-year recalc, then going from 1951-1952, I would expect that Ashburn's speed rating to drop a lot. He went from 29-6 in 1951 to 16-11 in 1952 in steals, and the in-game speed rating is more a factor of stolen bases than raw speed.

Thank both of you for your replies and it seems like scouting was a factor. I re-ran everything with as default/average/neutral settings as possible with scouting on and off and league totals locked and unlocked (automatically adjust always checked) and with scouting off all changes were minor.
In the earlier post when I noticed the dramatic decrease, I edited Ashburn since his ratings seemed too low for a speedy gloveman (I left those numbers at home, sorry) and wonder if that would cause changes. This time I left his ratings alone and he produced a similar offensive stat line to his actual 1951. |
