Bizarre stat results, hidden modifiers

again, I've often thought that Perfect League is a whole lot of... BS... vs the single player mode, where if chicanery was taking place, it would be possible to see it, vs. hidden shenanigans going on server-side.

I have checked this the last two diamond seasons, as well. Always, it's the Hank Aaron's with the higher ZR, vs. my now lonesome Patsy .. the other seasons, there was at least one other Patsy, way at the bottom in ZR, just like my own -- yes, even lower than shoeless joe jackson (i believe he's something like 70-70-70)

this is limited to 400+ innings played in position 9, right field (not sure about the displayed stats of some of those other names, like aaron judge and ellis burks -- possibly lower range/error/arm than patsy donovan as well)

i've been messing around with some garbage in the tourneys, and it's almost like the single player (game) sim mode, where you get that 'dice roll', that determines your, uh, 'luck factor' in regard to how the pitcher is going to perform. though a more reasonable guess would be that there simply aren't enough iterations being performed, making it very, very random.

in any case, re; cards -- why not just display the real stats, instead of the game giving bonuses to certain flavors? is there some need for a lack of transparency here? or will someone tell me that this these last 2 1/2 diamond league seasons -- it's purely random? of course, if i'm missing something here, i'd love to know

The same kind of randomness happens in the base game. I just refer to it as "mystery stinko" when a player with good ratings puts up godawful numbers, usually for one season before bouncing back. I don't think there's anything to be done about it other than burying him deeper down in the lineup.

Yes, there is random deviation; but the problem is that the all-time greats (excepting the Babe, who had well-documented bad habits) didn't deviate to the extent that everyday players did. Search Aaron, Jackson, and WTH Pete Rose and Al Kaline and Ted Williams. Their career arcs are arcs, with no "mystery stinko" seasons. They were great every year once they established themselves, until age caught up with them.

And those players are generally in PT as well, it's just the Tony Gwynn/Ichiro archetype that performs well in PT year in and year out.

Your super contact hitters will suffer from way less variance in PT than your sluggers with high eye will.

Ah, but real-world star hitters tend to duplicate results season after season, regardless of whether they're contact hitters or sluggers with good plate discipline.

Concerning the OP's lament about Aaron and SJJ out-fielding guys who have better ratings, I've always suspected that there are some under-the-hood ratings that only become obvious with continued play time. Why, for instance, does this year's Peavy card stink compared to Pedro despite his having a boatload of good pitches and better overall ratings? Pedro's circle change must be awesome...or that extra 10 points of stuff must have more effect than is apparent from PT in general.

Even with ratings, the "game" is based on randomness. The randomness in a single game is greater than the effect of ratings. This is how a last place team can sometimes beat a first place team. In PT, this is also how an all Gold team can sometimes beat an all Perfect team.

As far as hidden ratings, I wouldn't be surprised if there were some - or that a few "result formulas" are not known by us. What I don't want (and I think all of us agree) is I don't want the game to be a mathematical spreadsheet.... to be able to calculate how-to-win. That makes is less of a game and more of a math test.

Don't lose track of the fact that any single game is wide open. The best versus the worst does not guarantee a result.
