I have two versions of facegen. If you can get a copy of version 3.5, it has a feature that can shrink the size with a slider. Sadly the higher res paid version lacks that slider. Note that said slider washes out detail too but if you nudge the slider the tiniest bit, the detail loss is de minimus and it can shave 200 kbs off. I have that version of facegen on a second computer as most computers won’t allow two (tries to overwrite one or the other on install). If using the demo, the slider is just beneath the face, I believe.

I have version 3.7 so the only texture changes I can make is to delete the texture detail in general. I guess I will just have to check out each one on a case-by-case basis.

Thanks for Kubes! You're no Square!
Over in Denver, the Rockies are revamping their pitching staff, and the AI is thinking about finally getting something out of Doug Walls, who was their 1994 4th-round pick, out of Muscatine (IA) JC. Which is a bit odd, since Doug has spent five seasons in A-ball.
Still, Bowman takes pictures of every high draftee, so… IRL, Doug did get a bump, but only to the AA Carolina Mudcats. Where he had a decent season and thus was able to declare minor-league free agency and sign with Detroit. But he bombed in both AA Jacksonville and with the AAA Toledo Mud Hens. So 2001 found him in the Atlantic League, and 2002 found him deciding that one year in the Atlantic League was more than enough But he'll always have Bowman, I guess. |

The only Clay Holmes I have has facial hair. He plays for the Yankees now, so...anyone have a clean shaven Clay Holmes?

Cupid Childs
The Grand Rapids (Mich.) Democrat gives the following story of Cupid Child’s debut in professional baseball:
“Childs is the most curiously built man in the baseball business: he is about as wide as he is long and weighs about as much as Jeffries, yet there are few men in the league who can get over the ground faster than the ‘dumpling.’ He started in the business as a professional with the Kalamazoo club in the Tristate league in 1888 and his work was so good that year that he graduated into fast company, where he has been ever since. When he reported to the Kalamazoo club he came in on a ‘side-door Pullman’ and presented himself to the management of the ‘Celery Eaters’ and asked for a trial. The manager thought he was joking after looking at his short length and broad girth, telling him he would make a better fat man in a side show than a ball player. Showing them he was anxious for a trial he was told to go to the grounds and practice with the rest of the team. A search was made for a uniform that would fit him, but none could be found, the only thing of that nature large enough for him being a pair of divided skirts, which he put on, cutting them off at the knees. His appearance with this costume on can be imagined and was so ludicrous that it threatened to break up the practice. However, as soon as he got out on the diamond and began to practice they began to open eyes and wonder. Such stops and throws were made as they never saw before and with such ease and grace that all were at once convinced he was a wonder. The management signed him on the spot and at a good salary, a move they never regretted, as his playing was the sensation of league all the season. Besides being one of the greatest ball players in the business, he is said to be one of the best humored, not a single instance of his ever losing his temper in a game being on record.” I had him on a Random Debut team recently, so I already had one at the ready. The one you have looks bloated. Make sure his weight is 185lbs (should be the default), pushing the weight higher in-game will cause the game to try and expand the facegen. |

Yep default is 185 lbs. Baseball Reference says he's buried in Baltimore. Only 45 years old when he passed from Bright's disease. SABR says only Hornsby and Collins have better lifetime OBP. The SABR article notes a lot of contract trouble over his career. Thanks for providing the facegen. |

Lans, in addition to a new Clay Holmes, I have a request for D-Backs MiLBer Mitchell Stumpo. In the game, he has a pretty decent rating for someone who hasn't played in the Majors, so I feel he's worthy of a facegen.

Clay Holmes
For those on the outside, it’s easy to lump Clay Holmes in with Tyler Glasnow, Gerrit Cole, Charlie Morton and others — pitchers who’ve improved by leaps and bounds after leaving Pittsburgh. It’s also not wrong. Compare Holmes as a Pirate and Yankee, and it’s hard to believe it’s the same guy.
Holmes, who was traded for Diego Castillo and Hoy Park last July, has blossomed into one of the best relievers in baseball with the Yankees, going 4-0 with a 0.36 ERA in 22 games thus far, converting all six of his save chances while walking two and striking out 26. The 6-foot-5 right-hander has potentially unseated Aroldis Chapman as closer. Holmes’ WHIP in New York (.741) is more than half of what it was here (1.638). There was an article on CBS Sports this week titled, “The importance of Clay Holmes moving forward.” This for someone who had a 5.57 ERA in 91 appearances over four years with the Pirates. - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, May 27, 2022 So if Clay looks like the Pirate on the left in your game, it is one I made. I'll update mine to a clean-shaven one though. I did him with the facial hair as he had it for years and the Yankees were but a blip in his career when I made it, but given he has grown as a pitcher and made his name sans the beard, it seems appropriate to update my own previous work. Though I almost joked for you to roll back to version .65 if you wanted to remove the facial hair (and all the troublesome detail) :P |

Mitchell Stumpo
The first thing Mitchell Stumpo said to the scout who signed him was a lie.
It was the summer of 2019, and Stumpo was an undrafted reliever looking for a job in baseball. He had flown from his home state of North Carolina to Florida for the Indy Pro Showcase, the latest in several attempts to break into the professional ranks. As far as Stumpo was concerned, it was to be the last. When Stumpo stepped on the mound in St. Petersburg, he wasn’t expecting much. But then, in full view of several big-league scouts, Stumpo fired 94 mph. Then 95 and 96. Some had him touching 97. Scouts scrambled to call his college coach to ask just exactly where this guy has been the whole time. But Diamondbacks scout Kash Beauchamp went straight to the source. “Stumpo, you’ve got to tell me,” Beauchamp pleaded, “is this you?” The truth was it wasn’t, or at least it hadn’t been. The right-hander had picked up pitching midway through his four years at Division-III Guilford College, and the hardest he’d ever thrown was 93 mph. But 96? “I can’t tell you how that happened,” Stumpo recalls now. “I still to this day do not know.” But at the moment, Beauchamp — a man holding the keys to Stumpo’s baseball future — needed an answer. “I was so intimidated,” Stumpo says, “so I said, ‘Of course.’” - The Athletic As requested, percolaten |

Doug Walls
Doug Walls joined the Centerville High School Elks Coaching staff in 2015 to work with pitchers and has knowledge of the program from his playing days at Northmont. Doug graduated from Northmont and went on to Muscatine Community College where he served as pitcher, first basemen, and designated hitter. In 1993 Doug was drafted in the 4th round by the Colorado Rockies organization and was a starting pitcher from 1993-1999. In 2000 he continued his career with the Detroit Tigers and finished his professional career with the Florida Marlins in 2001. Since then Doug has served as a private pitching and hitting instructor along with coaching recreational and select teams of various ages. - CHS website
It was that Spring Training invite with the Marlins that got him the Getty Image I used for the facegen, Amazin' Last edited by LansdowneSt; 06-23-2022 at 10:59 PM. Reason: added attribution to CHS website, Go Elks! |

Thanks! (Even though my puns must have you climbing the Walls)
If Doug Walls runs into trouble on one of his starting assignments, perhaps the Rockies will send Heath Bost in to rescue him. Bost pitched rather well for AA New Haven in 1997, so it was a bit surprising that he didn't get a bump up to AAA Colorado Springs in '98. Perhaps they'll make up for that by bringing him direct to Denver now?
(Or maybe there's a team in New England that might be interested if the Rockies choose to send Bost on?) In reality, the Rockies sent Bost to Colorado Springs for 1999, where he proved that they were wise not to promote him in 1998. He kept floundering until he signed as a free agent with the A's in 2003, had a decent year for Sacramento, but his chance had passed. |

Heath Bost
Heath Bost was a standout pitcher at Catawba from 1993-1995, earning All-South Atlantic Conference honors each season. Bost was named the SAC Freshman of the Year in 1993 and was the league's Scholar Athlete in 1995. That year, he also earned All-Region honors. A member of the 1993 SAC Championship squad, Bost holds the second lowest ERA in school history at 1.84. He posted a 21-8 record during his three years, pitching four shutouts and collecting a pair of saves. He struck out 258 batters over 239.1 innings while walking just 38. He ranks fifth all-time in strikeouts.
Bost was drafted by the Colorado Rockies after his junior season and spent 10 seasons in professional baseball. In 2012, he was elected into the South Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame. - Catawba HOF Induction for Bost per youtube. For Amazin'... |

You're a Bost!
Pedro "Peter" Cervantes was drafted out high school and after his first year at E.L.A.J.C. (East Los Angeles Junior College), but he declined the offers and went back for a second season. But when his hometown Dodgers tabbed him in the 25th round in 1995, he signed on. Perhaps enticed by the possibility of a free trip to Yakima?
Pedro went on to have a good year starting for the Savannah Sand Gnats in 1997, but a poor one for the San Bernadino Shadows in '98. So it's surprising that the AI tabbed him for a bullpen spot with the big club. It's easy to see what's enticing about Pete, though. He doesn't walk very many, he rarely throws a gopher ball (never more than 9 HR allowed) and his K/9 is pretty good. A classic "three true outcomes" arm; his FIP- is consistently strong. There's just one problem; he gets hit like a bass drum. The lowest BABIP he's held opposing hitters to is .305, and he's been over .350 more than once. I'm guessing if you have nothing but sinkers, batters are going to learn to tee off on them. And so IRL, Pedro put in another mediocre season in San Berdu, got his release and put in a few years in the Mexican League before hanging them up. Cervantes's quest for the Show had proven nothing but Quixotic. My Destiny calls and I go! Onward to Glory I go!!!! |

Peter Cervantes
Hey now, I've been to Yakima!
All I remember is the Firing Center and they seemed to be big on apples. But I'm sure the legend of Cervantes lives on in eastern Washington. Here's Pedro and may we all keep on tilting at our respective windmills...

I've noticed Giolito and Cease look similar in the game. Perhaps Cease needs to just rock his 'stache with a clean chin, like he's doing in real life this year.

There is more of a distinction on a PC's rendering of the facegen. I zoomed in to get a closer look.
I did minor touch-ups on them, but it looks like them individually to me. I'm closing in on two-thirds completed on revised facegens for the current rosters. These two touch-ups of my previous work will be in the next batch I upload - but it is only light touchups. Sorry, Cease doesn't have a good (non-smiling) mustache-only picture yet. |
