Does OOTP 2023 play the 2022 season to date?
Am trying to find a good substitute for Stratomatic Baseball Daily in order to play the 2022 season in progress. Does OOTP 2023 meet this requirement?

If you're asking what I think you're asking, yes. OOTP has a "Live Start" feature that will start the game on any given date during the 2022 season (up to the current date). So you could start a game with stats as of today, or opening day, or 17 days ago if you want.

Thanks. If I buy and learn the game, does the computer play the other than Brewer games for me? Also, if I start with opening day, are the stats for the Brewers based on actual played to date as of May 18 or some other methodogy?

If you chose to start on Opening Day, then none of the players will have stats and when you advance a day, then it becomes fictional, all results are based on the game engine. If you started using Live Start on May 1st, then all player stats and team standings are as of May 1st, but playing games after that date are all based on the game engine and not what happened in real life. OOTP is not a season replay game like Stratomatic, it is a simulation so as soon as you hit that Continue button, everything becomes a fictional universe. |

still considering OOTP23
I appreciate the replies. From watching a few online tutorials, there's a lot there--including the financials, minor leagues, IA generated trades, which I'm not interested in.
Would I need to be the GM AND manager to avoid the AI making trades of my current roster? Second question: does OOTP use 2021 stats to generate hitting and pitching when I as manager put a team on the field? I'm still a bit confused about whether this game would enable me to play 2022 MLB Brewers with some semblance of realism. Thank you. |

You don't need to use financials, minor leagues or AI generated trades if you don't want to. You would need to exert a certain amount of control over your team (the Brewers) if you didn't want to make trades. I believe this could be done at either the GM/Manager or Manager levels depending on how you set who controls what for your team. You can also set the overall league options for "No Trades". Yes, you can play the 2022 season with some semblance of realism.

OOTP is very different from Strat-O-Matic. Strat takes great pains to produce historical accuracy. OOTP, even when using historical start, emphasizes "management' in the widest and most detailed possible sense. There's also a learning curve as you try to set up things to match your desired state of "game play." Most people who play OOTP become more or less addicted to the process of fiddling and tweaking the setup, ratings, and data.

I might add a few things that might interest you. As has already been mentioned, you can start on the current date, or any previous date. The stats and standings will be updated. You do not have to use Minor Leagues, but if you do this includes the Minor Leagues as well. All the stats and standings in the Minors will be the current. Also, if you want to play the season as it goes in a realistic manner, you can set the league, so the AI does not make roster changes, and then manually make any transactions as the season progresses. I have tried this before and it can be a lot of work, because you have to enter the transactions each day as they happen, but you can do this. Also, if you use Minor Leagues, it can be hard to find all the Minor League transactions.
You can also update the ratings based on the stats for this season at anytime, so players are updated to be more in tune with the way they are currently playing. As has already been mentioned OOTP is not a replay game like Strat-O-Matic, but I have always found it does a decent job as a real world simulation. I am one who used to play APBA, Stat-O-Matic, Diamond Mind, etc., but OOTP is my game of choice these days. Last edited by jeffw3000; 06-06-2022 at 11:27 AM. |

Former Strat Baseball Daily turned OOTP second year
This is exactly how I play OOTP. I find it works very well. However, I have to manually do transactions, (I only do MLB) and enter daily lineups. However, you can play other ways too,
Let me know what you decide..... I find the graphics so much better that I made the move from Strat. |

As someone who played both Strat and APBA for many years, starting of course with cards and boards, I can say with confidence you will not be disappointed with OOTP. It can be intimidating due to its depth and range of options. But as others have noted, you can toggle off financials and trades and not have minor leagues. I made the switch two years ago, and it took some time to adjust - with a great deal of help from the community. Once I got the hang of it, I would then add on various new aspects (like financials and minors and trades and player development tweaks) and learn how to use them. It’s immersive. With the full game engine engaged, it has to be as close as one could get to managing or owning a team.
