What Matters for Personnel?
I'm playing as GM only, and having a hard time determining what some of the different coaches actually do, and therefore what attributes to look at for each. Hitting and Pitching coaches are pretty obvious. But what do 1B and 3B coaches to in the game? I assume it's not just telling players when to take another base or stop at 3rd, so In-game Running probably matters, but what about the player development attributes?
Even the manual is unclear. It states "The Relationships tab for managers has 2 panes, relationships and development. Relationships describe both the general overall impression the team has of the manager, as well as detailing which players will have good or bad relationships with the manager. Development Influence indicates which players whose development the manager will be particularly effective (high) or ineffective (low) at influencing." but I only see Relationships and no Development pane under he Relationship tab. The obvious answer is to find coaches that are Legendary in every category, but the reality is I want to find coaches who excel at their job specifically. I just don't know what that job necessarily is. |

Two things for base coaches.
1. They manage in game running like base coaches do in real life. 2. The base coaches and bench coach teach fielding and running skills. A coach can only teach two things. So you want base coaches who have good in game running and are good at teaching up to 2 things. They are overworked if you try to have teach 3 things. If your bench coach can teach something well than you don't have to worry as much about base coaches covering all teaching duties. Staff roles are where you set up the teaching for the different categories. So I have 1B and 3B coach teach everything because they are the best at it. My bench coach is essentially my manager too since I play GM and Manager but just set up lineups and let the bench coach make day to day decisions as I sim. I let him set the depth chart by clicking set depth chart based on lineup. I usually ask the bench coach for pitching staff and tweak the bullpen. Usually my idea of closer and set up are different. So you want good in game running and being good at teaching up to 2 things. So I want a guy who can teach say C and IF well and a guy who can teach OF and running well or some combination of skills that allow to teach C, IF, OF, and Running well along with the bench coach.
