Difficulty Acquiring Cards

I'm someone who hasn't truly gotten into PT before, and I only come from other Ultimate modes like FUT and Diamond Dynasty, but it feels like it takes an incredibly long time to acquire cards on the market. Even when it seems like people are actively buying and selling cards, placing a buy order for me means I might get that card in a day or two if I constantly monitor the market. Is that the general consensus, or are my expectations just too high coming in from much bigger games?

It's just a matter of scale. Look at DD - the number of buy and sell orders for any given card is far above those in PT and the constant buying and selling means you can put in an order that's several spots away from the highest/lowest current price and still see enough movement to often get it fulfilled in a short time.

But The Show sold more than four million copies last year. Even if only 20% play DD (and you know it's way more than that) that means there are 800,000 DD players working that market. PT currently has about 10,000 teams, last I saw.

So relatively speaking, I'd say PT's market does really well and moves at a good pace. It just doesn't have the scale to be nearly as active as the big video games.

There's also a pack ripping cycle. With new content coming out on Thursday night, many players hoard their packs and don't rip them until after the new content drops.

Once packs start getting opened, cards start getting put on the market. It will carry over the weekend, but start dropping off again after Monday.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays are super slow days for the shop.

Does hoarding packs actually work? Like do people actually pull new cards out of packs they got before the content was released?

Based on my experience, I don't bother hoarding (other than to open a decent amount of packs at a time). From PT20 through to now, my best new card pulls have all been more than 2 days after they've dropped. I don't think I've ever pulled a new card higher than a gold on a Friday!

Also, an unopened pack is the same as any other unopened pack, regardless of when it was acquired.

Makes sense I guess. I've never really had good pulls on Friday either, is that a thing or is it just a random coincidence for both of us?

Heh heh, I've become pretty pragmatic about the AI at this point (my No1 adversary). If I look close, I see patterns, so I try not to think about it. I rip my packs, get what I get, and then eventually buy what I want!

I did start buying 10/ea of a bunch of cards that there is some 99% certainty that there will be missions for later.

Didn't know about the Thursday timing thing, oh well.

But, yeah, hording up those negro league cards and had a decent amount of the future legends.

Pack content is, as I've been told by someone well above all our pay grades, not determined until you open the pack.

It would be nice if they could give us a schedule on when Historical packs will be available again.

I love it. Sums it up for me perfectly.
