Save with no previous issues now claiming to be old version

As seen in screenshot, league that I am almost 6 years into managing every game suddenly crashed (while advancing from one day to another, and not a day that had any significance), and when I try to reload it, it claims the save is from an earlier version of OOTP. Play through Steam, and have no backups cause I'm a ding dong.

Have tried:
Reinstalling game
Importing from 22
Opening other saves to make sure they work fine, which they do

Any help getting this save back?

I have been battling this error with almost every saved game. It is quite frustrating to get a few seasons in and...POOF...no luck...start over buddy...

It won't even allow me to restore backed up games....

Any help is appreciated!!!

Dunno - but maybe a corrupt file somewhere. Have you tried the Auto Restore feature? It MAY work, or not, but it's a pretty quick thing to try.

As to why this happens, and how to prevent it, there are a few things that can cause corruption. This potentially includes unexpected system shutdowns or crashes especially while a league is saving, bad sectors on the hard drive the game is saved to, memory glitches on your computer (especially possible if the league is left open for very long periods of time without the game being shut down or restarted) or interference from other programs, especially disk cleaners or anti-virus programs.

Some of what you might do to prevent that from coming up again would be to regularly defrag your hard drive as well as check it for errors, don't leave OOTP open and running with a league loaded overnight or for long periods when you are not actually using the game, make sure to shut your computer off or at least restart it occasionally and also run as few other programs in the background at the same time as OOTP as possible.

For programs that need to be running at the same time, like an anti-virus or firewall, definitely make sure that the OOTP program itself, but also the data directory and the saved games directory are all whitelisted in any anti-virus or anti-malware programs on your system. That's probably the most important step of all those mentioned, as the majority of the cases of corruption will tend to come from these types of programs.
