Retired Players' League?

So I had a weird idea this morning. What about a league for retired pros who still want to play? No financials, real players (possibly random from all eras, just for fun), but a minimum age of something like 38 or 40 with no maximum age? No grueling 162 game season. These guys play 50 or 60 games a season. Ideally giving them a day off between games (maybe an NBA style schedule with no or few back-to-backs). Some kind of simple playoff system. And one cool idea, if possible, would be to set up MLB as my feeder league, but I'm not sure that can be done. Has anyone reading this ever tried this kind of league? And if so, do you have any advice about the setup?

2011 Las Vegas Coyotes (MLB): half season before DH bored me to death.

i think it is a great idea.....it might work with no financials....i STRUGGLE in regular sims to keep my players playing longer....they rarely stay on for more that few weeks...i 'think' you won't have enough players to make a 24 team league..

No, I expect it to be an eight to twelve team league. Probably not bigger than that.

Maybe you already know this, but this was a thing at the dawn of the 90s, Senior Professional Baseball Association. Earl Weaver and Dick Williams managed, Ron Washington, Mickey Rivers, all kinds of 70s guys. Take a look and maybe you'll get some more ideas!

Be interesting to see how an "old timers" league works out. How would you stop them from retiring.... again?

That's what got me thinking about it. I remember Bill "Spaceman" Lee pitching on into his 70s.

For those who were curious, I don't think this will work. Despite every step I've taken to make sure all created players are between 38 and 45, the amateur draft is a bunch of kids (high school and college). Plus, the retirement announcements are coming fast and furious.

That is what I was afraid of.

It would be great to see some kind of revival of this IRL. With various media outlets throwing wads of cash at sporting events, and many other revenue streams that didn’t really exist at the time, I imagine a winter league of 8 teams on a 56 game schedule could do quite well.
