1983 IPA Pro Cup: New Yerby Mets (113-49) vs. River City Raiders (121-41)

Road to the Pro Cup

New Yerby Mets

What a surprising Pro Cup matchup this is. Last year River City had its second best season ever, finishing 90-72 (only 1977 was better at 93-69). After a mostly miserable team history beginning in 1938, they had begun building a better team this past few years, since 1977. 1978 was rough as they fell to 64-98, but these past few years they have had win totals of 84, 86, 80, and 90 last year. Nobody expected them to jump up to 121 and capture their first playoff spot.

A New Yerby team is back in the Pro Cup, but it's not the Yankees. Last year for the Mets was horrendous as they went 39-123. Only a few years ago they had fantastic teams, reaching the Pro Cup in 1977 and 1978 with win totals of 113 and 128. However, they fell to Glasco both times. Beginning in 1979, they've had win totals of 108, 118, then dropping to 63 and 39. With some key free agent signings and scouting discoveries, the Mets have recovered and have returned to being a serious Pro Cup contender.

Both the Raiders and Mets were expansion franchises in 1938. Now they meet in the Pro Cup with the goal of reaching baseball immortality.

The River City Raiders fell behind 3-0 in the Union Semifinals. Ever since then they played perfectly, winning 12 straight to capture their first ever Pro Cup title, in their first postseason appearance in team history.

jg2977, could you please give me a list of the currently-eligible teams for the players I'm likely to propose for your IPA, at least as far as things currently go for the Freemans and/or their rivals, to each start their playing careers on by no later than 1994 in it, if enough things go sufficiently according to plan here? Of course, we know that Carl will have to start on Glasco, but what of the others I mentioned earlier here? Thank you for your time and all, too. CD out.
