Sorry to hear that. Was there any error message when the game crashed?
Can you send us the trace file of that crash?

Each time it crashed, it just shut off with no error message or display issue. It was like the delay between plays just led to the game shutting off rather than the next play. I love this game and I wish I could find a solution.

If you can try playing out some games with debug mode turned on, then send us the resulting file after the game crashes (but before you restart the game) then we can hopefully figure out what's going on here and get things sorted out for you.

Here's how to turn on debug mode and retrieve the trace file after the crash: https://support.ootpdevelopments.com...debug-log-file

Does it crash during a 3D game or are you just simming? Need to know if it's an issue with some 3D feature or not.
Are the games that crash some specific games? Start of the season, special game, something unusual there?

Thank you! I will turn that on and report back tomorrow.

As for the scenario, it is during 3d gameplay, never simulations and it tends to be very late in the game (7th inning or later each time). This is year 2 of a historical Sim (I simulated every game of year 1) and all of these crashes have been within the first 6 games of the season.

Thank you guys for getting back to me!

I've had 3 crashes in 4 attempts to play the game since I've updated to 23.3.61

Crashes were not an issue prior to installing the last update. Don't know if it's coincidence of not.

All 3 crashes have occurred when the computer changed pitchers. When the new pitcher came in there was a small little choppy delay, followed by a windows error message of, "ootp23_x64.exe has stopped working" and the game then smoothly exited out, it didn't freeze the PC or anything.

specs are as follows...

Windows 10 Home 21H2
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz
RAM 32.0 GB
Video NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti
ASUSTek ROG STRIX Z370-E

I did reboot the PC after each crash. Did not fix anything. My drivers and Windows updates are current. Absolutely nothing has changed on my end since I originally purchased the game, and crashes were no issue at all until this morning when it has now crashed 3 times. It's been my first time playing since installing 23.3.61. Don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

Very frustrated

Any of the steps on the very first post of this thread help? The troubleshooting force reinstall for example (because the crashes happened after a new version, maybe the version didn't wholly take on the initial install)?

I did the force reinstall after initially having those 3 crashes in 4 attempts.

And I did get 2 full games in without any problems immediately after that.

But now this morning I just had another crash. Same scenario as all of the others, computer brings in a new pitcher and boom - crash

So, since the latest update I've have 3 games without crash and 5 game with crash.

I'm not going to keep investing any more time into this. I have better things to do than play 7 innings only to have it crash out in the 8th. Giant waste of time.

I'm hoping whatever is going on here gets addressed on the next patch or I'm probably just going to ask for a refund and be done with it.

Game won't load

I downloaded version 23.3.61 and it was working fine. I am in the middle of a season.
Today I went to play and I got the error message "app will not load on this PC" I restarted the PC and that didn't help. I did a system restore and that didn't help. Running game on Windows 8.1
Don't know what else to do.

Just set audience detail to simple and turned audience quality to the lowest setting as well. Also set OpenGL w/ Fastblit in the settings menu. Created an exception within my firewall as well.

After doing that, I've tried to play 3 games. The first 2 played fine. The 3rd one crashed - again when computer changed pitchers.

So to recap everything that I've been experiencing here.....

- Problem started after updated to 23.3.61. Coincidence or not, I dont know

- Problem is when the computer changes pitchers, the game will crash with a "ootp23_x64.exe has stopped working" message coming from Windows

- Problem doesn't happen every single time the computer changes pitchers. Maybe 40%-50% of the time when they change pitchers.

- The computer doesn't freeze or anything. After the crash everything seems perfectly fine with the computer. Doesn't seem like it's struggling with resources or anything.

- I did 'force reinstall game data' yesterday - no change.

- I set OpenGL w/ Fastblit and set both audience settings to the lowest setting today - no change

- Created firewall exception for OOTP. No change.

- I did scan my drive for errors and ran defrag. Again, no change.

- I don't use FaceGen. I use real life photos. But the photo file sizes, dimensions and file types are all small and meet the requirements. 99% of the photo files are from an upload one of the other forum users provided..... Whether that info is relevant or not, I don't know. But I bring it up because the problem has only occurred when computer changes pitchers; meaning a new image that wasn't part of the initial starting lineup is being loaded or accessed.

- Over the last 48 hours I've had 6 or 7 crashes now compared to maybe 4 or 5 completed games.

What we really need to have here is the trace file from after the game crashes, but before you restart OOTP. That should hopefully tell us what might be going on.

I would recommend a full uninstall/reinstall of the game (you can leave any save files you have though, no need to uninstall them).

I haven't had a chance to play again yet, but I'm pretty sure this is the exact issue I am having.

I'll attempt to get this for you in the next day or two. I just read over the steps to do this and I just want to make sure I understand correctly....

1. After I enable all of the needed items in the setting menu, I should then completely close out OOTP and then reopen it. Is that correct?

2. Before starting my game, I should first find where the "debug" folder is and I should open the debug folder and keep it open in a 2nd explorer as I play the game? And then if/when the crash occurs, BEFORE I close out OOTP I should go to that 2nd explorer and copy that debug file over to my desktop for I don't lose it. And I should do this as OOTP is still open with the crash message on the screen.

Am I understanding both of those 2 points correctly?

After my last post prior to this one I did completely re-download and then reinstall 23.3.61 and played 1 successful game with 0 crashes. Don't know if that fixed anything or not. I'm not holding my breath. But either way, I will try to play a few games with this debug thing enabled and if I get a crash I'll send it over to you.

I just looked at some of your other posts to try and compare our issues....

You mentioned in a totally different thread that you use real life player photos and not facegen. Is that still accurate for you? I do the exact same.

Also, you mention that you play out your games. You don't sim them. Same for me. You said your crashes come late in the game. Any chance it's right after the computer makes a pitching change? This is what crashes me. I have a very loose theory of it maybe having something to do with the computer needing to access that new player image file because in what has probably been close to 10 crashes now for me, it has been that exact same scenario every single time of the computer bringing a new player into the game. You mention your crashes always happen late in games, so that has me wondering if it's during pitching changes or pinch hitters or something for you as well. More or less anything with a new image file needing to be accessed.

Just happened again. 1 out in the 9th inning and the game just shut down with no error message when the computer pinch hit for the pitcher. I did the full reinstall after I read your message and it shut debug mode off, but I'm going to turn it back on and try one more time. This will literally be my 4th attempt to complete this game.

And yes, I use player photos and play out the games.

For 1, you may not 100% have to close out of the game after you turn on debug mode in step one, but it takes like 20 seconds to do, so no reason not to.

For step 2, you can let OOTP crash and exit out before you copy the trace file over/post it here. Just don't restart OOTP again though, as that resets the trace file and it won't have the info we need in that case.

This is an interesting theory and I suspect you might be onto something here. It's possible the game is trying to create a facegen for the new pitcher even though facegen is off, leading to a crash. If that's it, the trace file should definitely tell us that.
