Double Header Issue...
This could be user error on my part if I'm over looking something, but....
Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you get 1 additional roster spot opened up specifically for the one game that's on the back end of a double header? I'm not seeing that anywhere within the game, unless I'm missing it? |

I was curious of that, too. But this is quoted direct from MLB.com, posted August 30th, 2021.... "Under current rules, Major League teams are allowed to carry 26 players on their everyday active rosters. Clubs can add a 27th player on days in which they play a doubleheader." So unless they changed the rule since then, I believe the extra roster spot still stands. |

and as I read more on that same article...
"From Opening Day (April 7th) through May 1st, the 26-player active Major League roster shall increase to 28 (including 29 players for any doubleheader during this period)." So they even allowed the 1 extra roster spot early in the season with the larger roster sizes as well. |

Correct; it's one extra roster spot for both games of the doubleheader. This rule is not likely to be implemented into OOTP due to its complexity.

This rule has never been in OOTP. The rule IRL didn't change.

Yes, MLB teams get a 27th man for both games of a double header. IIRC, a player called up for the double header doesn't burn an option if he is sent back down after the game(s). That matters now even more that you can only option out a player 5 times per season without having to pass through waivers.
This is on my big wish list for OOTP as it really affects play. I wouldn't think it is too complex to implement since the devs have done similar roster machinations (ie- the expanded roster option for the first month of 2022). I end up doing it manually now, which requires me to have to play in Commish mode. The MLB Rule: MLB clubs have a 26-man active Major League roster but are allowed to recall one additional player who is on the 40-man roster to serve as the 27th member for the day of a doubleheader. That player accrues one day of MLB service time and is returned to the Minor Leagues following the completion of the doubleheader. This rule is in effect from Opening Day through Aug. 31. From Sept. 1 through the end of the regular season, all clubs must carry 28 players. The active roster reverts back to 26 players during the postseason. Upon being optioned to the Minor Leagues, a position player typically must remain there for a minimum of 10 days before he is eligible to be recalled to the Major League roster. For pitchers and two-way players, the minimum is 15 days. But if a player is serving as the 27th man for a doubleheader, there is no minimum number of days for which the optioned player must remain in the Minors. Teams also are permitted to call up a 27th man on days when they are completing a previously suspended game and have another game scheduled after that, but the 27th man is only permitted to play in the regularly scheduled game that day, not the contest that was previously suspended. |

Yeah, I mean I'm not going to argue with people over the complexities of programming the feature into the game because I have no clue.... But to you're very obvious point, given the ridiculously elaborate make-up of the game to begin with something tells me the developers heads' wouldn't explode in trying to add this feature in. To me, this is an important feature because if you don't have any off days in the schedule for a while, being able to call up that emergency starting pitcher without burning an option is obviously a valuable thing. But at the same time, OOTP has never had this perk - so who knows. I just just throwing it out there. |
