Not Sold On The New Uniform Format
The Springfield (Illinois) Flames (logo courtesy of cephasjames) are the Class A affiliate of the Quebec City Capitales in my fictional universe. The image on the left is the uniform in the original format and the image on the right was done in the new.
This is just me, but I'm not sold at all on the new format, certainly not to the point where I'm going to redo the hundreds of fictional and historical jerseys I've done. The old format shows the sleeve trim detail, the jersey lettering is much clearer, and does not distort the shoulder patch. I don't see where the new format is an upgrade.

Looking at those two side by side, I agree.

I very much prefer the old format for the player portraits. I will be continuing to use those as long as the OOTP developers allow their use. It's great that Silvam14 and others are updating the historical uniforms for people who want them but I'll be sticking with Silvam's previous set. And the last version of OOTP that lets me use Txranger's sets for my fictional league will probably be the last version I buy.
I don't view the in-game 3D guys up close enough for it to matter one way or the other. I do appreciate being able to set pants color though. |

I agree with everyone else. I'll only use the new format for new real world teams and for those that stretch weird and duplicate the lower logos/lettering

The stretching is hideous. Hopefully it gets worked out.

Good points!
The uniform mesh gets stretched down the arms of the players distorting patches, and we have yet to make templates for exposed undershirt sleeves. I think we can address these with templates and a uniform maker update.

Another example. In this case the jerseys were not made in a third party application, these are the jerseys that come with the game. The image on the left is the new 23 style, the right was from 22. I simply copied the 22 version into my 23 directory.
Again with the old style you can see the sleeve trim, under sleeves, and undistorted patch. I can't see why I shouldn't covert all of the jerseys to the 22 format.

I don't play 3D so I have no use for them, and am too old and lazy to start over. I haven't even converted my old square logos to transparencies!
No disrespect to the Markus & Co, I realize it's a new thing.

I look at this as a great first attempt. Obviously I think there should be some improvements to this just like they are tweaking development engine and trade AI. they weren’t going to everything right off the bat, but it will get there. I think it’s great that we at least have a choice of which format we want to use.

That's a good first attempt. I'd do less undershirt on the arms. Maybe a fraction of what you're showing there.

To use baseball parlance, this new format was a swing and a miss in the first at bat. Perhaps it will improve in the future. I'm going to switch all of my MLB teams back to the 22 jersey format. It is some comfort in knowing I wasn't alone in my feelings about this.

There's something off about the stance of the figure in the new player portrait -- the arms going almost straight down instead of downward at ~35 degrees. It makes the players' torsos look smaller and their heads look too big, in addition to hiding the sleeve patches.

I noticed that, too. It's as if their shoulders are slumped. The sleeves also give the appearance of the uniforms being from the pre-WWII "long sleeve" era. I had to make the Royals' away and Nationals' home jerseys in the 22 format but given that it took two minutes apiece tops to make them it's not a big deal.

I noticed something about shoulder patches since I play lots of manual games. The problem with OOTP22 was the following, but OOTP23 seems to have MAYBE fixed it:
Most teams have the shoulder patch on the left sleeve as shown in the player models above. If you check the modify colors and uniforms of a particular team the correct left sleeve patch is shown. But now try a manual game and zoom in a cam like I do to where you can see the players up close and personal. In playing manual games the shoulder patch is shown on the right sleeve. On the left sleeve (if you note the catcher with a plate umpire cam) the player has some black thingy or something on the left sleeve. I know many of you enjoy playing OOTP without doing many manual games and those making uniforms should place patches on the correct sleeve (usually left). The player profiles then show wearing the patch properly. Just be warned that there exists a quirk where in manual games the left sleeve patches appear on the right sleeve. Today I played two manual games with the most recent update. The OOTP23 default big league uniforms worked perfectly--left sleeve patches worn by players in manual games on the left sleeve. The only blink of an eye glitch is the left sleeve of the catcher briefly turning into a thingy when he throws to third base after a strikeout (which is fine). So far, so good. However my historical game today post update using silvam14s historical uniforms showed that left handed throwers had the left sleeve patch on the left sleeve while right handed throwers still had the left sleeve patch on the right sleeve. I know silvam14 is updating and revising his historical uniforms and maybe the way the new ones are created will fix the old issue with right handed throwers wearing left sleeve patches on the right sleeve. Tried to get undershirt to show in the player profile. You are probably right, I think there is somewhere between the two.

I figured as much. Having the arms down and so close to the body just makes it challenging.
