1 year MLB FA deals signed late in season
I'm seeing a lot of 1 year free agent deals being agreed to late in the season - like mid-September - including from foreign leagues with posting fees. These contracts expire in two weeks. Doesn't make much sense. A 2 year deal sure but there really shouldn't be much if any 1 year deals being signed with 2-3 weeks left in the season.

Just a couple quick examples, Last year, José Iglesias signed a one-year deal with the Red Sox on September 6th. Ross Detwiler and Vince Velasquez signed one year deals with the Padres on September 14th and 15th.

Hm, fair... I will amend it though that in the cases I've seen in OOTP, it's been teams out of contention, and it seems in the real life examples and also logically, this would mostly only occur when a contending team has a hole to plug late

How about a playoff team signing someone to a one year deal once the playoffs start (they're not eligible for the postseason roster)? And a non-playoff team also?
Mid-September, sure, but a one year deal that expires after 2022 AFTER the 2022 regular season ends... this shouldn't happen? |
