So this is just not possible, unfortunately. There are just far too many changes in far too many places to even keep track of them.
Thanks Lukas. I understand the challenge. Maybe as a future enhancement there could be a separate data file that could be downloaded and optionally imported into existing games?

I would say that this becomes a slippery slope. As soon as you move a day into your season your players essentially become different versions of themselves.

I think forcing in updates that are meant for the Opening Day rosters would cause quite a bit of unintended weirdness and would essentially be impossible to test thoroughly.

So, just so I’m clear, which items ABSOLUTELY require a fresh league file, and which, if any will apply to a current save?

In particular, if the financials fix and fictional pitcher stuff fix will work in a current save, that would be really nice.

Relevance? I'm sorry, this thread relates to the beta patch released today. The topic is the many changes that the developers were able to make. In the context of the many enhancements, fixes, and upgrades listed, cosmetic issues would seem pretty minimal. Don't get me wrong, I hope they get fixed in due time. I respect that they mean a lot to many players. But lacking faces isn't preventing anyone from playing the game. Or at least that is my take on it. I admit to looking at OOTP as more of a strategy game than an arcade game. So I'm pleased when the patches focus on the factors that affect game play. (I also understand that the graphics issues were caused in part by the new Mac OS, and will take time to resolve.). Not dissing anyone who champions graphics. Just saying the developers have dealt with important game engine issues, which I appreciate.

Think of it this way. If the developers dropped everything and spent hundreds of hours fixing the facegen issue, to the exclusion of everything else, we all could look at accurate faces of players; but the game engine issues would remain. I'm pleased that they dealt with the game play issues first; not that they had much of a choice.

Agreed. I'm grateful for the time the OOTP team has taken to improve gameplay. In fact I'm pleased enough with it that I haven't downloaded the last patch, mainly because the issues they've listed that are fixed weren't really affecting the way the game plays on my Mac OS.
The facegens, with guys like Justin Turner, Brandon Marsh and Rollie Fingers looking like they've gotten facials after getting their faces singed, smooth, hairless, are secondary. Nonetheless, as a substantive aesthetic to the game, a cool texture, it is a major bummer to have it compromised to this extent. I can live with it tho. I love the game, thanx OOTP for another great release and the patches/updates.

I’ve been playing OOTP for almost 20 years. Been part of the OOTP boards for just as long. I even had the chance to meet the OOTP team in person at a meet and greet years ago.

I played the early versions of OOTP way before facegen was an in game feature. Since the inception of facegen, it’s become an integral part of the gaming experience. It adds full immersion factor to the game for me as it does for the majority of users.

The great thing about OOTP is that you can play the game anyway you like. Don’t care for facegen? Then you can disable it. However, most of us Mac OS users would like to see this feature fully functional in OOTP23.

Exactly my point. I don't believe anyone has said anything about Mac issues other than the Facegen problem. So for a user to reply directly to that comment with, 'Game works great. I don't use faces,' makes the comment irrelevant. But that's looking at it from a logical perspective, which many humans don't.

Don’t try to marginalize comments from a different perspective than your own. Again, as a human, I hope the Facegen issue on the Mac gets fixed as humanly possible. My comment was just that the developers seemed to be working hard on all issues and making extraordinary progress. I guess for me the glass if half-full; but for others the glass is half empty without the proper faces. Which is fine. Distinguish disagreement from irrelevance. I’m sure I’ll notice and appreciate it if and when the facial issues get resolved.

I would not turn off facegen as an option at all. I enjoy it, when it works. I agree with the observations about “cool texture”, “full immersion”, and “a subjective aesthetic to the game”. Exactly. And count me among those Mac users who want to see this feature fully functional in OOTP 23. But from a strictly logical perspective, I’m grateful that I can play the game while waiting for the aesthetics to be there, that’s all.

If you read Markus's initial post, near the bottom in bright red letters it explains how to apply the patch.

The items which need a new file are noted in the changelist.

But how do i get notified about new updates? Some notification in-game?

Edit: Sorry, my initial question was wrong. Language barrier.

I believe when there is a release patch (as opposed to a Beta patch), a pop-up should present itself when you open OOTP23.

In my experience, the most reliable way to find out about new patches is to check this General Discussion board on a regular basis. The announcements about patches usually appear right near the top of the list.

Sorry if this is a dumb/repeated question, but will this patch make some corrections to the rosters? For example, I'd like to do challenge mode as the Orioles, but there are some players/prospects that shouldn't be on the 40-Man to start the season.

I think roster updates are only fixed via live start
