Their pitching has been pretty good overall. The offense is lackluster, but I don't expect it to stay that way.

This will probably be an unpopular take but this years version of the Tigers looks a lot like last year's version. They can't hit, field or get a solid effort out of a starting pitcher.

I know A.J. Hinch is very popular in this town and is immune to criticism but this is the 2nd April in a row where they could bury themselves. I understand we are only 17 games in and the cliche is you can't win a division in April. While that may be true you could certainly lose one in April though.

I'm a big fan of pitching Coach Chris Fetters but he has to be better as well. Pitchers are throwing a first pitch strike 59.4% of the time which ranks 26th in the league. The bullpen which has been good is going to burn out at this rate.

Baez and Meadows absolutely make the team better and I like what I have seen out of Tork. That isn't enough to carry the freight though. I'm not even going to get into injuries because every team has them. Why is that always a crutch in this town? I'm still riding with these boys till the end but this has been a frustrating start. I was hoping and actually expecting a bit more this year.

Yeah, I was expecting a better start also. At least .500 ball. Not what we're getting here. Their bats are dead and the starting pitching is weak. The only brightside right now is the bullpen. I believe they'll turn it around but it sure is hard to watch them dig themselves into another hole in April.

I am not ready to jump ship yet. Eyeing the railing, but not ready to jump.

I'm liking this Beau Brieske guy. I think if it comes down to him or Tyler Alexander remaining in the rotation, I'd choose him.

He does look promising!

Hard to watch them drop three straight 3 to 2 games to Houston but they are playing really well. Starting, bullpen, offense, and defense all have looked good. If they can play like this while we wait for the walking wounded to return, all will be well.

My only wish is that they'd get more runs. Hard to win games when you're not scoring much. That to me is their biggest weakness right now,

Yes, however in watching most of these three games they did seem to be pretty disciplined (except Baez!) and hit the ball hard even if the hits weren't falling. They looked on track at least to my untrained eye.

About as encouraging as three losses can be I suppose.

They are a hard watch right now. Seems like a lot of players that know they are not part of the future here.

Expecting Baez to do anything other than to swing from his heels is unrealistic.

Whew. Losing to the Oakland Spare Parts is rough.

I still love all the things that this organization is doing but this is difficult to watch when so much more was expected.

They've got to turn it around at some point. There are too many good players and players with potential on this team for them not to. It would just be nice for them not dig too deep a hole to get out of. Which they're very close to doing.

I agree. i am not a tiger fan but I thought they made some great strides to being competitive and think that they are a playoff team. It is still early, but like you said you never want to fall so far behind that you have to go on some great run to climb out of it.

That was one horrendous hit that Pinder took in the snout there.

I am very much convinced that I am not the same species as baseball players. After that crunch, I definitely would not have nagged the trainer until he'd let me continue to play this murder game.

Baddoo has been struggling mightily. Hope he gets squared away quickly. I fell in love with that guy last year.

This team had a swing and miss problem before they signed Baez who is really good at swinging and missing. I made a whole argument about it in last years thread. Right now the team ranks 11th most in team strikeouts. 8th worst in OBP and dead last in slugging. I was optimistic like many others here originally. This though is just concerning. Winning games when you are completely out of it fooled me last year but I'm not taking that fool's gold a second time around.

As they head into the bottom of the ninth about to drop yet another game to the Oakland Spare Parts, Schoop and Torkelson were both batting exactly .148

Those are the little things that make watching the Tigers right now so much fun.

On May 7 of last year, Detroit was 9-24. That was the lowest point of their year. They currently sit at 9-23.
