How's the 3D aspects of the game?

Please see title.

I would like to know how much improvement, if any, was done in the area of player models and animations (player, ball, bat). This is the primary thing I'm looking for in my next OOTP purchase.

Thanks!

It's not MLB the Show but the players look definitely better and the facegen on them is really nice. No more alien looking faces. More animations, better looking uniforms. I would say it's a solid double might stretch it to a triple if more changes are done later in the year.

There are "out" animations and "hit" animations that look very close to each other, so (at least so far, 15 hours in) its harder to immediately tell what the result of a ball in play is. Makes it a lot more enjoyable to use the 3d engine, imo.

I think the 3d stadiums are just perfect. I believe they do a great job of having the Stadiums look detailed and all that...but we get good performance due to some great work by the graphics team/person. The fans at the stadium are pretty basic but its still immersive. I do not remember this in the past but I had a game at sunset turn the sky into beautiful warm red color then a few batters later it turned to night.

The weakest part of 3D are the players models. No numbers on their uniforms, come on! FM can do this and have great movement which we don't have in OOTP. I just make sure all my camera shots are not close up and it helps the immersion.

The 3D is why I'm able to stick with the game, I love to watch my little guys run around and catch stuff.

Me, too... I love the animation... haven't bought OOTP23 yet, but I will... old selfish me will not use it until it has been perfected... I wait to convert my leagues until 5-6 months go by when most of the major flaws have been fixed.

The 3D graphics in OOTP 23 are tremendously improved (the last version I had purchased was 21). With that said, what camera settings are you all using in order to see the player's Facegens on-field. I've yet to find an angle that gives a clear shot off their faces and am excited to try out this new feature.

There are no delivered camera angles that will give you that. There are some modded stadiums that come with new angles that will and you can import them to your stadium. I wish the people in charge of this could show a closeup of the starting pitcher on the mound with his stats and then start the game instead of that silly pan which is a waste.

I probably shouldn’t respond, because to me the 3D animations are maybe 10% of the pleasure I get out of the game. I played for a year in 2D before I began using them more regularly.

On my laptop, where I play the PC version of the game, it really isn’t worth it, because the screen is smaller and everything is crowded and quite small. That said, when I tried 3D after the latest hot patch, the ball was still floating at the pitcher’s or fielder’s belt line, instead of in the hand or glove. And batters were swinging a foot above the ball and hitting big flies. So I guess it’s a work in progress.

On my Mac, playing the Apple version of the game, the graphics in 3D look much better; although the stadiums are not correct. I seem to be getting a default stadium, even though the menu says the correct venue. Perhaps this was user error once again, as the default stadium is CBP, and I am an incurable Phillies fan. I have the appropriate stadiums loaded and chosen for each MLB team in my sims. I don’t think a user should be required to do more than that in order to play in the proper stadium.

But the 90% of the game that I enjoy is improved and challenging and continues to impress. I will probably go back to 2D until/unless I can see all the lovely stadiums I have chosen in 3D. I would put in a trouble ticket; but I am too busy playing and having a good time.

I am absolutely pleased that you responded. You saved this girl from buying the game this year. I'm not buying it until an honest effort has been made to improve the 3D aspects. The simulation aspect of the game is perfectly fine for most any fan, save the hardcore stats nuts who can pick a .000001 out of a haystack. In MY eyes, the game is going to improve any until the 3D is looking good. Sorry if that offends anyone.

I am curious on what would be acceptable for animation? Are you looking for the show type of graphics or is it more the stadiums?

Not trying to start anything I'm just honestly curious. I never cared about the 3d graphics but have greatly enjoyed the little avatars running around. There is still some wonky things that happen though I get a chuckle and just chalk it up to what I see and read are sometimes different. I am just curious as to what you are looking for, everyone is very different.

LOL, no it's not the stadiums. It's the players, and animations (including ball animations). Baseball Stars 2 still looks fantastic, and that is nowhere near realistic-looking. Someone else in this thread pointed out some of the issues.
