Unread messages going to newest instead of oldest

I'm not sure if this is how other people read their messages but it's how I did it. If I had unread messages, I would click on the mail icon on the right taskbar and it would bring me to the oldest unread message and I would keep clicking the mail icon until it read all of my messages. Now when I click it, it brings me to the newest unread message so I have to click the actual message to read it.

It's not a huge deal obviously but when there's a few emails I don't want to read, it's a lot easier to click on the mail icon than to click on each individual message.

I have the same issue. This is a major QOL issue. It is super annoying. Are there any keyboard shortcuts we could use instead that will go to the oldest unread message?
