Lock Market Sizes

I would absolutely love, love, love the ability to lock market sizes to keep teams within a general budgetary framework through time whether they win or lose.

If you want to force budgets, all you have to do is set the budget number and autobudget number for every team. I do this in my leagues to ensure everyone's budget is the same and it works without incident. Market sizes won't have to account for it.

How do you do this?

I would love this option also...there are some leagues where I would like to make all adjustments to the market sizes myself (and would prefer not to have to double-check each team every year to make sure they didn't go up or down).

*Edit*

Along the same lines, I would love it if we could set a max length for media contracts. I would prefer to be able to set this at 1 and have the contracts re-generate each year. Currently, I go in each year and edit them to 1 if a longer contract has been generated.

Is there a reason you change the media contract lengths? Maybe I shouldn't ask since I already have enough things to do to my league every off season to getting it running how I like it lol.

I adjust the financials each year and would prefer the media numbers to be generated each year off of the updated numbers.

Also, I am specifically doing this in a Promotion-Relegation setup, so I want teams to immediately get the benefit of promotion and/or immediately feel relegation with those numbers.

Also, I have a long dormant media spreadsheet floating around the mods channel somewhere that needs to be totally overhauled, but...ultimately, OOTP has always been bad at media market/sizes and if you're trying to play it to simulate real life, you'll need to do a ton of manual tinkering to suspend reality.

Particularly when running Pro-Reg leagues as the Market Sizes are relative to the league the team is currently in (and not an overall scale that fits leagues with varying finances). So, if they move up/down a league their market size needs to be adjusted to where it fits within that new environment.

I think there is a reason the market sizes change. I too, have always wanted to see "locked" market sizes, but I also think it may prohibit the AI in many ways. For instance if a teams signs very big contract, it's going to need more money to afford them, and so the market size may need to increase. If a team has a very low payroll, it may go down. I somehow think the reason these markets fluctuate is for the overall financial health of the game.

I am not 100 percent positive of this...it is my theory however.

I have always tried to explain in my annual settings recommendations...that market sizes aren't really market sizes in OOTP. I mean, they are, but they aren't. They are more indicative of a teams' "behavior".

Market Sizes are really indicative of the teams' Market Share of the overall league money pool or maybe another way to look at it is that it is indicative of their financials compared to the "League Average" financials set up in League Settings because I there is no guarantee that someone is going to set up the Market Sizes in a balanced way.

If you set a League Average Local Media amount of $10mil. and then set all of the teams to a Market Size of 8...they are all going to get deals well over $10mil. Also, their baseline attendance (before accounting for the fan modifiers and ticket prices) is going to be well over the league average attendance that is set, etc.

I'm not sure of "why" they change occasionally. I think it is more just a relationship with long-term success (or lack there of) and it probably tries to keep things balanced around the League Average Market size, which is 6. I feel like it would be a bug to gain Market Size just because you signed more expensive guys...that shouldn't be how finances work.

But, that is all a digression from the point of the OP...which is that it would be nice for those of us that are tinkering with these settings ourselves already if we could keep the game from then adjusting them.
