Okay cool. I've been combing players since I've seen this in hopes that I wouldnt have to scrap everything I've done so far and I havent encountered it in 1989..

Stupid question time. I don't pay any attention at all to ratings. I don't manage or gm, all I want is for player to perform and for the AI to roll realistically. So, in the end what does Tony Gwynn having a low potential ratings mean? Isn't it the actual ratings that are the determining factors as to how he performs? I play using both recalc and the development engine. I set TCR to 1.

His potential ratings are used to determine how he develops with the development engine on. If the potential ratings are lower than they should be than his development will likely be lower than it should be and he will end up with lower actual ratings.

With recalc on the actual ratings would get 'corrected' each season when recalc takes place.

Thank you so much. I do the combo of recalc and development, as I don't have players retire according to history turned on. So, if the potential is low, guys that don't have anymore recalc years left, may slide off the table very quickly then?

Yep. Also, some development happens during the year, even with recalc on. So you can get players with ratings off during the season even with recalc on during seasons they did have historical stats.

Okay, looks like it might be smart to hold off on any random debut play until this gets fixed. I can always fool around with a real transaction league. When I play that way I turn development off as it uses retire according to history.

Thanks for your help. Been playing forever, but since I don't actively participate in my league, I would never even know a ratings bug existed. Sprague sent me a pm about it, but I wasn't sure how it affected my way of play.

Maybe this is why my stats on random debut seem low.

If you have any of those leagues still on your computer, it would be really interesting to see how guys that have reached the end of their recalc years are fairing. Are they going straight into the tank?

So out of curiosity how are you identifying problem players? By star ratings?

I'm using the talent engine with a 1989 start date. It's Mayof 89 I've done a random evaluation of what should be good players and I haven't encountered any issues. My plan is to wait for a patch before I import the 1990 draft class.

Now as a week around in the future depending on when we actually get a fix for this could you start the Sim I'm 22 and import it to 23?

I have another question. Is this occurring when you use Real Stats, Neutral Stat or is it occurring with both?

Looking at the numerical potential ratings. It's obvious when a pitcher like Ron Guidry has a potential control rating of 10 out of 100. It's far enough off where it isn't a subjective judgement call. It is way off.

I was only using real stats. I have no idea of it occurs for neutralized stats.

Absolutely. But how did you decide to look at Guidry? what lead you to him?

I'm was a Yankee fan and typically play in the 1970s and 1980s.
