Please explain difference to between saved and backed up games.

You Save the game to save your current progress. You back up the game to restore a save point of need be. I back up my game 4-6 time a calendar in game year. OD, ASG, Draft, end of regular season, end of postseason usually. Maybe a few more along the way depending on what I do. I save weekly automatically and of course upon exit.

File - Save current game - File Backup - create backup.

You can also create new backups by moving the old backup to a new location but i havent done that since OOTP 15.

Good question. Saving just does what it does in any game... or program. Saves the current state so you can resume from the same spot. But not everything is saved... because this game is so robust and some text files write to different types of files and some are graphic files that can change on the fly due to your settings.

Personally I never use the backup choice in game. I just use the save. If I want a sure fire backup I quit the game and go to the game folders and .lg file and zip it up myself manually. Not sure if that's the best practice... or better... but its what I have learned over the years.

Zipping up your .lg file is a good idea. After doing this re-name the file with a version or date. ex) MyLeague v1.2.zip or MyLeague 4_23_2022.zip. That way you can go back if you mess up or want to modify anything and try again. The game folders may not need backing up nearly as often. Of course the in-game backup should be done also. Your zip files can be stored online, on thumb drives or external drives. You can never be too safe.
